Corner Effects

Does anyone know how to make rounded edges on the bottom and square edges on the top of a rectangle?

Re: Corner Effects

The only way I've found is to make two rectangles - one with rounded corners, one with square corners. Put them on top of each other, slightly offset, so they appear the way you want. Then select them both, and open the Pathfinder window and hit the first button (Add). That'll turn the two shapes into one.

Re: Corner Effects

There's a corner effects script on the Adobe Studio Exchange that will
ask you for the type of effect, radius, and which corners. When
applied, it can round two corners and square two corners. Works great.

Re: Corner Effects

Create the rectangle with the corners rounded. Then, with only the rectangle selected, choose Object > Paths > Close Path. This will convert it to a generic editable vector object. Each corner will have two points, one of which is a "corner" point, and one which has a bezier curve control point. For each corner of the rectangle you want to make square, select the point that has the curve control point using the "direct selection tool" (the white arrow) and note its X or Y coordinate in the control palette. Then select the other point for that corner and change the X or Y coordinate to match. You will no longer be able to change the corner radius with the corner effects setting.

Great tip Damo77!
This way is much easier than what I was thinking...
Funny how sometimes we make things more difficult than they need to be, huh?
Thanks for sharing!

Re: Corner Effects

It looks like the script David mentioned comes already loaded with Indesign CS3. It appears to work pretty well, even with paths that are not rectangles. Window > Automation > Scripts brings up the scripts panel.
