Acrobat-Optimize Scanned PDF help

This one is for Leonard or Dov probably.
I am using Acrobat 8 feature under Documents/Optimize Scanned PDF .
When I set it to high quality, which is the best setting, I get 300 dpi images.

Can I change it in some hidden preferences to something higher, at least 600 dpi or this is set in stone?

I would appreciate any help, thanks.

Are you doing color, grayscale or B&W scanning? Mac OS X or Windows?
What type of scanner?

Re: Acrobat-Optimize Scanned PDF help

I am scanning laser copy on Digital Xerox Nuvera engine.
Scan is 1200 dpi, B&W.
I am not happy with quality so I am trying to further tweak it in Acrobat (scan is multipage PDF).
I can probably save it as single page tiff's and do action in Photoshop but I wanted to stay in Acrobat and this tools would be very convinient for this specific task, however it keeps downsampling it to 300 dpi, even at high quality setting.
I am doing it on Acrobat 8 MacOSX.
If it makes difference I have Acrobat 8 PC at my disposal too.

Thanks for fast response Leonard.
