Canon iPF8000, is two sided printing possible?

Hey all, we reiceved a free Canon iPF 8000 from a company since we ar going to buy our products through them and I have heard that we cannot print our quick proofs two sided on 50lb. offset, is that true?

What we have now is an EPSON Pro 9800 and EFI Colorproof XF. Boss does not want to renew the service contract with EPSON since we received a 'free' printer, since I know that nothing is free in this world, I just want to make damn sure that the Canon will work for us before he goes off and sells the EPSON on us.

Thanks,
Matt B.

I don't know if it is too late on this topic but our shop has been looking into new software and hardware for our proofing department and through our research have found you can't back up on the Canon iPF8000. The sales person for the product said she was sure we could "rig something up" to make backed up proofs, but we didn't like that idea. We are using the Epson Pro 9600 for our backed up impo proofing as of now.
We have heard from on of our proposals that the HP Z2100 will be able to back proofs up similarly to what the Epson does now. Have you found any answers to other printers that back up proofs?

Sorry about not responding sooner. We have been proofing two sided, low rez proofs on the Canon. I have no idea what our color specialist did to get this done because I work on another shift. The only complaint I have right now is, the Canon is actually running slower than the Epson on both low and high rez proofs. We have the Canon set at 600x600, I am guessing that is so we can get a nice high quality proof and I am thinking because of that it runs slower. Now I am impressed with the quality of the low rez proofs that come out. The Epson low rez are ok, but because we had to take so much black out, the proofs look strange, but then again low rez proofs are not for color.

I hope this helps.

Matt:
I don't know what your proofing volume is, but are you thinking about keeping the Epson for "color proofing" and use the Canon for imposition proofing or vice versa? (You mentioned earlier that the boss may get the idea to unload the Epson). Is it an option to keep Epson and drop the service contract on the it? Do you have a lot of service calls on it now?

Re: Canon iPF8000, is two sided printing possible?

Brian,
What we are doing, so far, is color proofing on the the Canon and spot color jobs on the Epson. My bosses boss wanted us to keep both printers and we did. Recently, the color seemed just a bit red on the Canon so we are back to all proofing on the Epson. We have not had a lot of service calls on the Epson, the one we did have, they replaced the head. So far, other than the color issue, the Canon is not that bad. We have a color specialist from Straightline that is going to be GRACoL certified in a month or so and he will be coming back in to start from the ground up to get things finally right. We have never messed with the Trueflow settings, we are plating linear and we never messed with the CMYK settings seperately. We only have a 5% dot gain generic curve built in.
The only issue we are having now with the Epson is smaller type looks blurry and we are getting some kind of tracking that runs outside the printed area.
