Re: what about agfa antares CTP

Saheb:

The Antares line was OEM'd from Cymbolic Sciences,
which was eventually bought (Gretag?), and the line
was eventually discontinued.

The device owes its heritage from the printed circuit board
market, and is a very nice, simple and precise design. The
Antares could also use film, as a transition into CTP.

As I recall, that laser was a FD-YAG 532 nm 100 mW
laser (green), that imaged both photopolymer and
silver-based plates.

Those lasers are (I believe) in short supply now, and
at one point, there was a company (or two) that had
aftermarket upgrades to longer-life 405 nm violet
laser diodes.

Check out the condition of the laser, and see if you
have access to replacements, or upgrades to violet.

Regards,

Re: what about agfa antares CTP

Hello Steve,
I have Cymbolic Sciences PlateJet 8. I would be very interested in upgrading the laser to 405mw. Would you have conntact details of companies that offered these replacements?
Thanks and regards,
Misko

Sorry guys....

That was about 5 years ago that I was approached.

There is NO Service support around the World for ANTARES, and you will be alone in front of serious truble.
Servicemen - zero or lost all experience
Service/User docs - never was full enough.
Spare part Stock - zero.

Those machines are built strong. I was just speaking to an ex supplier I know and he claims that Océ does support this machine. A company called Bob Webber (www.bob-weber.com) seems to be supporting it also.

I used to run one at my last employer about 4 years ago. Back then it was hard to find GOOD used lasers at a decent price. I'm sure it's even harder now.

When it worked, it worked really well. When it didn't work, not having a service contract was no fun. I purchased some lasers from some dude on the net called Mr Gizmos. (www.mrgizmos.com).

Good luck!

Hi Steve,

where can I buy plates for the Cymbolic Sciences PlateJet 8. I would appreciate a quick response. Thanks.

Grafiki...

I believe that device has a 100 mW 532 nm "green" laser.

This should be able to image both silver-based and photo-
polymer type plates. Of course contact your local Agfa
agent and ask about LAP-O or N91/N92 (not "V"), or
another source for green photopolymer. I may be
mistaken, but I hear rumours that Fuji is withdrawing
from the Green photopolymer market - or perhaps
this is a misunderstanding... you should check-up
on this aspect.

I also know one Antares contact me

Hello, to Every One, i have been able To change the laser and install a Violet 405nm Laser into it, with great success. you can choose to install a 60mw laser or a 300mw laser so you can expose processless plates.
