Imposition Automation Strategies

Greetings all Esko/Artwork folks!

We are new users of the Esko Backstage workflow, soon to Suite 7.

As we build our automated workflows our first hurdle is how to choose an imposition template. Looks like it can't be done via Smartname naming conventions. Esko support is looking into this for us, but, would like to hear back from users as well.

Also looking for better ways to handle automating multi-page step and repeat via FastImpose.

Can you elaborate on what you need to do in terms of selecting the imposition template? Is this information you have in a database somewhere? We have successfully setup both JDF task launching and SmartName database queries here... does that sound like something that would solve your problem?

We have Suite 7 but not the jdf module, (yet). Esko support has suggested using Smart Fork task where each named imposition template is assigned to a Smart Fork task, then the Smart Fork task can become part of the workflow ticket sequence.

We use Printsmith which has no jdf or sql connectivity, (except to fiery rips). We are able to export data from printsmith which may be viable.
