G7 Calibration

We did a G7 calibration run last summer and have been running that way ever since with good results. We are still a film based workflow, what I found interesting was that after tweaking the densities on press to achieve gray balance and then figuring and applying the appropriate curves to meet the G7 tone curve, basically what we end up with, within 1-2 points, is linear plates.

Anyone else have this same result? I mean it looks like its close enough you could just image linear plates and gray balance on press and be within the tolerances?

Just wondered,
