CIP4 has a new iteration of the JDF standard, called XJDF. XJDF is designed to simplify workflow automation by making it easier to implement & easier to validate using standard XML tools.

The new standard will coexist with JDF 1.6, which is being simultaneously released. The parallel development of both versions offers options to use either JDF, XJDF or both. XJDF will co-exist with JDF, and both will continue to be developed.

“The original version of JDF was based on the idea of a complete electronic job ticket,” explains Rainer Prosi, Technical Officer for CIP4. “But in many cases, this provides too much information for (some) devices. XJDF allows transmission of only the required and/or available data”.

An XJDF / JDF side-by-side comparison can be seen here.

A book about XJDF has also been published
