Changing Blankets on Itek 975 PFA / Ryobi 3200 PFA

To Pack or Not to Pack, that is the question. As a tech that has has installed many Ryobi and AB Dick duplicators I can tell you that in general they do not need backing and they did not come that way from the manufacturer. An exception is the two color Ryobi with common Impression cylinder; it had a separate backer. You could buy blankets that did not require a backer but the best results was using the proper blanket with a backer.

Generally, duplicators do not have bearers and do not require backing; the cylinder pressures can be adjusted to accommodate small differences in blanket thickness as they are used.

As for the 975 PFA, it seems to me that after 20 years of performing successfully, and now the blankets are suddenly difficult to install, it would seem the problem would be that the blankets are different now. It is not likely to be the press. Go back to what worked before. Why do you need packing suddenly after 20 years of not needing it?
