Prepress software doesn’t get reviewed. Reviewing is complex and time consuming. The trade press no longer has the means to do this. They are trying to survive by copy-pasting press releases and ‘testimonials’.

There is always the court of public opinion where reviews of prepress software by actual victims - I mean users of the software - can be found in forums such as this one.
I agree about the trade press but I think that has more to do with being hesitant to offend advertisers. GATF used to try and do reviews which were presented at their tech conferences. But even there, questionable test methods and concern about offending sponsors killed their ability to do an effective job.
