Jimmy from Oregon here.

I've been in prepress since 1994 and have spent the last 12 years working for Precision Digital Imaging here in Portland. We don't have any presses here, we image plates and proofs for many printers in the area that don't want to bother with prepress. We were one of Creo's first Prinergy customers back in 1999 and we have been imaging plates on our Trendsetter on a daily basis ever since. As you can imaging we carry many plate sizes and thicknesses to accommodate our customers.

Believe it or not, we still image film for the few that request it. We have an Avantra 44. Most of the film we image is for engineering applications such circuit boards. There are just a few printers that we work with that still burn their own plates from negs.

About 2.5 years ago we started offering digital printing for the trade. We run a Cannon 7000.

Re: Introduce Yourself

Hey all

I am a baby compared to some of you out there. I have been working in dye sublimation for maybe six years now, running a few types of large-format printers, a couple of types of Mimaki's and Dupont Artistri.

I am currently delving into the wonderful world of Profiling. So, I may be asking related questions to this. Especially, for ONYX and Colourburst profiling software.

Looking forward to hearing, ummm, reading your comments and gaining knowledge from your experience

Krista

Hello to everybody and many thanks for your kind invitation.

Following your request to introduce myself I want to give you a brief overview about me and my work.

First of all the Google search link (also a new trend) :) :
http://www.google.com/search?q=Alexander+Dort&hl=en

I'm owner of a full service advertising, marketing and design agency saddled in Germany named Dort and Schmitt. Our main business is the printing industry. Working for this industry sector since 21 years now means that we've a complex knowledge and broad network we're willing to share. To do so and in combination with our knowledge about Software programming and Web 2.0 networking we've used the last three years to develop a comprehensive new platform for the print and media industry. This brand new baby - named the PrintersLounge - is now alive since just a few days and has been developed together with our network partners from this industry sector.

If you're interested you can find further information about the Lounge at:
http://www.printerslounge.com/en/printerslounge

As a special offer for all members of this great PrintPlanet forum I want to invite all of you to become a premium member of the PrintersLounge absolutely free of charge and use all features and tools we can deliver for a full year without paying for anything. And don't fear - after this period your accounts will only be reduced to the free account level (and you can use all that free features unlimited in time) so there are no subscriptions, no automated renewals nor anything else you'll have to respect.

Why offering that? Well it's a brand new public beta and we'll need traffic and contents to test our server farm and our back- and frontend so we need members and we need contents and we're glad to provide you as a big thank you for your participation with a real cornucopia of great features to promote your business - also including free of charge advertising banners in the Lounge. Quit pro quo - no more, no less.

To do so and register for free just use this special referral link which let our admins know that you'll register for that free premium accounts:
http://www.printerslounge.com/en/referral/7777d27f

Due to the fact that we'll start also our affiliate programm end of next week you'll be able to use this account also to make money with your recommendations for our lounge by simply inviting your friends and business partners to our network. We'll pay up to 10% for each paid membership you can refer.

So, enough yet - happy and succesful networking here and everywhere to all of you.

Alex

introduction

Hi,

I'm Tony Vangelabbeek. Together with my wife I've run our own typesetting firm between 1986 and 2005 in Louvain, Belgium. We are specialised in typesetting of scientific books. For almost 15 years we also produced offset films.

In 2001 I realised that prepress offshore outsourcing would become a thread for our jobs. So I slowly started connecting to Indian service providers. In general I was not at all satisfied with the results. Especially the cost savings were almost nihil.

Then, in 2004 we realised that, unless we were fysically present and available for our Indian people, we would never reach the quality, productivity and efficiency levels we (and our clients) became used to.
So we took the hard decision, and we decided to startup our own business in India. In July 2005 Genesis Textware pvt. ltd. was born.
A second hard decision came when we even decided to relocate ourselves to India. We left Belgium in July 2008 and are now full time registered as Indian residents.

Not without any success: at the moment we have 25 employees and growing.

I invite you to read my blog about outsourcing and cultural differences: thewigglingblog

Best regards,

Tony Vangelabbeek & Els Janssen

Hi All

I am currently doing a 'feasability study' for the aquisition of a 'Digital Colour Printer', after many hours of going through my companies outsourcing invoices I have finally been able to put our click rate at 296,000 per year ( I should qualify that I moved from a mainsteam Mail House to a 'Boutique Mail House' where I am the closest thing they have to an expert!!!).
I have vast experience in B & W printing (Xerox 180,4635, Nuvera 120 & Konica 1050).
On top of what we have 'outsourced' potentially we have missed out on 500,000 clicks that we could not quote on through the lack of colour printer, as client had followed their own leads.
The big selling point for me would be being able to mailmerge at the same time as print in colour!
I have approached Xerox, Konica, Canon and Ricoh and am waiting to hear back. What sought of questions should I be asking?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Si

Working for myself, I have no life- and am almost ALWAYS in front of a computer- even at a friend's house to check my e-mails...

I can actually draw & illustrate, and am a Vector Master, capable of doing a Killer Design for you in just one or two spot colors.

You give me the Details: your budget, the shirt & ink colors, text, etc, and I send sketches for approval, Progress Proofs to show how the art's coming along, then a Final Proof for your customer's approval.

Once you pay me (thru PayPal), I send the art file.

Painless, fast- and simple!

Hello Colleagues,

I noticed there was quite a gap in this thread between 2008-2009 glad to see it picked back up. I have been in this buisness since I was 14y/o I am now 47 you do the math...the number scares me. I have worked in just about every area you can think of in a shop, I caonsider that to be great experience. I have worked in smal Mom&Pop shops, large commercial companies and in-plants (sounds like I can't keep a job). Most of my life has been in California but I now find myself in Colorado working for the University of Colorado. I am a returning member of Printplanet and I am happy to be back. This is a great resource for the exchange of information and I look forward to the discussions and knowledge.

peace
