Have you benefitted from the recent economic uptick!

Question for our US members - has the recent uptick in the US economy and Trump’s policies benefitted you personally and/or your business? Or has it had no impact? NB I’m not asking if you think Trump is a saint ir a taint.

Might of helped get a capital expenditure approved this year, nothing personally monetarily besides my personal investments. Which the market has been on a long bull run but even someone who isn't a Trump fan can admit that he provided a bump when elected and another with the passing of the tax bill.

401K is up 100K since the inauguration. New tax brackets should put more in my check soon.

Gordo,

Yes. We are a small company based in Chicago area. While not extravagant, a bonus was issued. We have a higher "comfort zone" for the launching of our new product, as well. The vibe we get is there is a less gloomy outlook in the year ahead.

Definitely an uptick here, and a lot of optimism. But I am old enough to just take it easier and not really expand unless someone come along that is interesting in taking over my business. If this would have happened 9, or 10 years ago I would defiantly be looking at expanding. Socialism Sucks and contracts business investment and opportunities. It needs to be piled on the ash heap of history with all the other crimes against humanity.

Oh! Uh! Wow! Why should companies not be forced to adhere to, at least, basic ethical principles, pay you a living wage and stick to the rules. Why not try to get a grip on unfettered predator capitalism like you see in the states? Whats wrong with making sure that you have clean air to breathe, that you are able to drink the water and that your kids are sure to be fed. That your granny can go to hospital along with you, your wife and your kids without fear of poverty. That you get a living wage, and enough holidays, sorry vacation, to enjoy it, or that your wife can get up to two years to look after your kids when they have been born, paid for by insurance that we all pay into. If I lose my job then I can expect to receive a certain amount of money each month for a set period or as long until my unemployment insurance has run out and if after that period I still don´t have a job then I can expect the state to give me a wage that will ensure that I don´t have to turn to crime to survive. Why is it so wrong to have a state that will take care of you if you fall on hard times in the grand lottery of life and struggle to get back on your feet? You won´t have a great life and you won´t be living off free money as I will be paying for you and your neighbour will pay for you as will everybody else in the country and we will not let you starve and your children will be able to go to school or university and you will get the medicine that you need to stay sane, but we will expect you to pay into the system when you can and we will expect that you have paid your part into the system, a socialist system that is there to support us all if we fall short. Yes it is a restrictive system, but in a way that makes sense, it´s not perfect by a long shot but it´s the best we have and I personally would not want it to be replaced by anything else.

Gordo, you just had to know when you started the post, that, somehow, some way, it would turn political. Right? (or Left?) LOL

I think that the Forum is populated by graphic designers since folks don’t seem to follow instructions LOL

Yes I thought this might happen but my curiosity got the better of me.

Definitely an uptick here. Installed our first piece of major equipment in over 7 years last week.

The most noticeable thing I am seeing is that everybody is double or tripling their orders quantities.

Health Insurance deductible doubled from $2,500 per person to $5,000 per person Jan. 1, 2018 so that is definitely an uptick...for the insurance companies. :(

With the unAffordable Health Control Act that was expected, you really didn't believe the lie did you?

If you are looking for a spirited debate between Republican and Democrat you are looking in the wrong place. Neither is the problem or solution. They are all the problem. Every last one of them.

Absolutely. Same snake two different heads. I am just pointing out the fallacy of government control, mandates and excessive taxation and what that does to producers of wealth and the negative effects on economic reality. Amazing how the fantasyland numbskulls want to make a political debate out of it.

Slammer stop slamming.

Where do you live, by the way?

At the moment, Malta, the one in the Med.

Good for you. Socialism is not a long term solution for any country, human nature will simply triumph and corruption or any number of other factors will bring it down the total efficiency of the system just enough to make it fail. Looks good on paper, horrible in practice, due to humans being humans.

In any case, the address last night was great. The economy is for certain in an upswing.

Sadly that is true, human nature will win over in the end, but for the moment it is working and governments around Europe are at least trying to make it sustainable. But, Maggie Thatcher once said that: “The trouble with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money” ergo, it´s a continent wide Ponzi scheme and as long as there are people paying into the system it will work-ish. Thing is the population is falling faster than a bag of hammers tied to an anvil. If only there was a way to get masses of people into the continent... Oh wait!
