Plate prices

If Trump’s tarif on aluminum goes through, will it increase plate costs for printers? If so will you have to eat the added cost or can you add a specified surcharge on your quotes or on your invoices?

This is good news. Just think what printers will be able to do with all that increased revenue from the plate recyclers!

I don’t think it works that way.
The tarif is imposed on aluminum coming into the US in order to make the current US price less than the imported material. So the market value of aluminum for the recylers remains the same. I.e. the value of the aluminum doesn’t go up.
The tarif would hit Canada - the USs closest ally - the hardest. Canada is also the largest market for US goods, and purchased some $266 billion in 2016. In 2016, the US ran a trade surplus of $12.5 billion with Canada, when both goods and services are taken into account. If Canada retaliates by putting import tariffs of its own on US goods, it’s the US automakers, farmers, and manufacturers that will suffer.
