We are considering adding a digital press to our plant. We are a corrugated packaging/display company. Looking at the HP Scitex 15500 or EFI Vutek HS100/125. Anyone with experience with either of these presses? Things you like/dislike about them?

I'm going to agree. I say that because I had a job do virtually the same thing to me. We ended up switching it to a spot color and ran it as 5 colors to fix the problem, which may or may not be an option for you.

I gave up on Quark when version 9 came out. I still had some customers using Quark, so I kept it updated for them. Got version 9 and tried to install it. The installer crashed. Tried it again. Crashed again. Tried several time, restarted the computer, did all the song and dance, etc. No luck...

No argument there...

We recently had some samples printed on the HP Scitex 15500 corrugated press. Very impressed with what we saw. One of our vendors is in the process of installing the PageWide T1100 right now. Hoping to move some of our jobs over to it once it gets up and running.

Well, all our print vendors acted like we were crazy asking them to hold under 2. I can only imagine if we asked them to hold under 1...

Let's not forget that new system Pantone has that takes Hexachrome and throws violet into the mix...

Most of our vendors say 4 delta E is what they can hold for process, and 2 delta E for spot. But it's always been my experience that it's easier to hold color in process color than spot color. And when we check the job we see a lot less variance in process color than in spot. Process variations...

That's a good point too. It's been so long since I've used Corel I don't know the answer. And when I did use it, it was primarily for sign work, so color management wasn't a big deal. One of the annoying things about Illustrator though is that you can have a 217x217 document, but a PDF can't be...

In Illustrator, I just hold Command+Space and that turns the cursor into the zoom tool. No need to switch between tools.

That's why we finally gave up on Quark. We kept it around because we had a few customers that still used it. Got an upgrade to 9, and it wouldn't install. No idea why. Would just get about 70-80% complete then crash or lock up. Over the course of a few months sent probably 15-20 emails and...

I ran a prepress department for 15 years. A year into it I put my foot down and had them ditch Corel and all the PCs.

I haven't seen Corel in a print shop in probably 10-15 years. I know a lot of sign shops still use it. And, honestly, I don't have anything against the program. I just have used Illustrator for so many years that using Corel would be like starting over. You can certainly impose in Illustrator...

Yeah, but again, no Mac version...
