    Introduce yourself!

Well thank you Gordo! I feel fortunate to be amongst the team at EFI - but still lots of good work for us to do! I hope to see at least a few of you at Drupa! (my 5th...!)

    Introduce yourself!

Hey Everybody! I'm not "new" here, but I'm newly-returned and/or re-incarnated. I was Kevin@Kodak, but now I'm KevinC@EFI (there are a few of us Kevins here). I'm excited to be back amongst friends in the printing industry after a short excursion into the SaaS marketplace!

Hand Developing Ecomaxx plates to read dot.

Interesting... I'm about a year out of touch with the latest-and-greatest, but last I checked neither Kodak nor Fuji had any officially-endorsed method of reading non-process plates with a densitometer (for the reasons I stated before). If you can't get it working to your satisfaction, I'd...

Hand Developing Ecomaxx plates to read dot.

The quick answer, from extensive discussions I had over several years with many technical people, R&D and customers... although maybe not "authoritative": don't bother. The longer answer: Yes, it's possible to read the plate with a densitometer or plate reader if it can handle the lower...

    Pricing question

Different printing process: Flexo vs offset. Flexo plates are MUCH more expensive, costing printers in the range of $0.10-0.35 (or more) per square INCH just for the raw plate. Offset plates are an order of magnitude cheaper. Flexo plates also take a lot more time to make, adding to the cost...

    Nexus 8.? question - basic (I hope)

I'll have to verify when I'm back there tomorrow. Separated PDF would be fine for us too, but the issue we've run into is that we seem to be outputting the "proof quality" file instead of the final print-quality file. That means that the resolution is low, but also that the spot colors are...

    Nexus 8.? question - basic (I hope)

That would be amazing, Sev! I appreciate the help on this. It does "sound" simple, but we've been stymied over some of the steps. The closest we got was a PostScript that had 6 separations, but the spot colors were all converted to CMYK (except for the spot-color page marks). That's how we...

    Nexus 8.? question - basic (I hope)

I have a customer with a Nexus 8.6(?) workflow, and we're working to try to get it to output pre-separated, un-screened, high-res PostScript or PDF files for us to feed into another system. We're having some difficulties setting up a workflow to do this, and I think it's some pretty basic...

The "ideal" test image to evaluate CTP performance

I'd like your input if possible - I'm trying to design a new test image that we can use to make sample plates to give to prospective clients. Doing "live" jobs for each customer is always great, but the turn-around time and cost of doing so is not ideal. What features/tests should we...

    Kodak Plate Processor

Some plate types are more sensitive to hard water than others. In some systems, hard water causes problems with the coating material dissolved in the "carry over" developer on the plate - which can result in tiny bits of coating re-depositing onto the plate, causing spots on press. Also, hard...

    Introducing myself...

Thank you Sev, I truly appreciate that. Hopefully I can be as helpful in my new role as well. Kevin.

How to measure weight of offset plate?

Yes, that looks correct to me. Good luck! out of curiosity - what are you using/needing this for? Scrap metal value calculations?

How to measure weight of offset plate?

    51.0 x 64.5 * 0.014 = 46.05 cm3 of aluminum (all units here are converted to cm) 46.05cm3 * 2.7g/cm3 = 124.3g per plate This assumes that your plate is "0.15mm" thickness (0.14mm in reality though). Kevin.

How to measure weight of offset plate?

The formula you wrote is correct, but I get $0.987/plate when I do that exact same calculation though.
