    Thank You

I would like to send out a big thank you to all who have helped me on this Forum. Hopefully I have helped at least a couple of people. Mostly I followed and learned. I will be signing off in a week. I made it 40 years in prepress. The first 30 seemed fun, the last 10.... not sure fun is the...

Who is still using Acrobat Distiller?

I just had a Photoshop DCS Eps file that I couldn't open in photoshop or acrobat. I couldn't export a PDF when placing in Indesign either. I just wanted to preview for a sales person. I was able to use Distiller to create a PDF. So... I keep it around as a tool when nothing else works.

Linerize or not to Linerize plates... that is the question

Food for thought. Years ago we had a laser die in our CTP. We were down a couple days to replace. Because we were using a linear curve and a press curve, I was able to linearize and start making plates to get the presses running without having to do any press tests. Granted Lasers do not die...

Over 50 unemployed Prepress Tech, should I call it quits for printing?

I have the opposite problem hiring. I wouldn't mind hiring a young person with ambition to train into a prepress operator. Can't find them, and end up hiring an older person. I have noticed the last few people hired in any department, have all been gray haired, because they are the best candidates.

    Fuji Finalproof

The Laser diodes are usable in some platesetters and cost a fair amount to purchase. That is how we got money for our Final Proof a while back.

    Customers without 5k lighting

gordo, We have sales people that will want to view press sheets in all lighting conditions (5k, office, outdoors) before OK'ing a internal press check. Usually they will adjust magenta down from standard densities and gray balance to account for office lighting and not match the proof. This is...

    Customers without 5k lighting

Am I the only one that has customers viewing proofs and print without 5k lighting and saying we are always red? This seems to be getting worse as stocks have increased the amount of optical brighteners. I have always thought education is the answer, but it only goes so far. We are a G7 shop with...

    Epson 9900 Failed Cleaning

Another possibility, The cleaning station needs cleaned/replaced. The cleaning works with the cleaning station sealing with a rubber gasket and sucking against the printhead to clean. If the gasket is dirty or worn, it can't preform a effective cleaning cycle.

    Curve creation with iSis

Now I am on to something. That worked. Thanks Rick

    Curve creation with iSis

I was creating press curves using a DTP70 and Colorport software and importing the data to Curve 2. My DTP70 died. I have access to a x-rite eye-one iSis. I can't seem to get the ColorPort iSis combination to read any P2P25 target. I would rather not buy new software if possible. I have tried...

    New Prepress Computers

I am leaning towards the 27 inch iMacs as you say, Paint, with lots of RAM. It is amazing to me how little color work we do anymore. Also the PDF workflows have reduced processor load as is it moving to the servers doing the processing, and the workstations just pushing files around. I...

    New Prepress Computers

I am looking for opinions here. Do you think new iMacs are appropriate for general prepress workstations these days? Or should I still be looking at Mac Pro's? Thanks for your opinions in advance. Rick

    How to read Concentric dots

We use a Gretag IC Plate II with concentric dots on Fuji LHPJ plates no problem. I will tell you that we had a problem in the past with measuring on a surface that was not flat. We now measure with the plates laying on a 3/4" plywood surface. Rick
