Basic Imposition Software

Hi. I'm the author of PDF Snake. I understand that people are wary of pure in-the-cloud software, so I built PDF Snake 6 with those concerns in mind. You can visit PDF Snake, and then unplug your computer's network cable and PDF Snake will still impose documents without a network connection. The Chrome and Edge browsers will offer to install PDF Snake's icon on your dock/start menu, so it works like any other application installed on your machine. It's even available for download from the Windows store.

The number of PDF Snake subscribers has grown rapidly since the cloud version of PDF Snake was first published in April of 2021.

I'm always interested in learning ways to improve it.

Imposition Studio is a good one. Imposition, Never be so easy! download the trial and check it out.
Hi. I saw a post about this. I'm checking out Imposition Studio v7 for our digital press. Only have so many days to do that. I'll keep looking but I'm trying to figure out how the extra pages work. Not seeing anything so far, on how to do an odd pg booklet. example 26 pgs. I want 8 page sigs. so this will give me 3 - 8pgrs and the 2 extras I want 2up head to foot work and back. Can you give me an idea or direct me somewhere for the answer. I've emailed support, haven't heard back yet. How is support with these guys BTW? thx Rande

26 pages, so not saddlestiched? What size pages on what size sheet?

Support has been great for me, they generally get back to me in a day and have even put together imposition templates for me when struggling with something not typical.

I would split the imposition up. I am assuming it is a saddle stitch book otherwise you could do that all if coil binding. Do an imposition and select the 24 pages you want for saddled stitch. Save and export. Then do a new imposition for the extra 2 pages 2 up, 2 sided on a 12x18 sheet (assuming that is your sheet size).

I'm going to resurrect this thread. I recently purchased a used Duplo CC-330 and need an easy and cost-effective way to impose my files for it. I don't run fiery, and I am not really interested in going that route currently. I tried PDF Snake, and while it works for business cards, I have struggled to get the other templates created properly.

The primary issue I'm having is that most of the Duplo templates have a different margin from top to bottom. Usually .5 to .25. and pdfsnake doesn't really have a way to accommodate that, as far as I can tell. Some of them also require a wider gap in the center, which also doesn't seem to be an easy thing to do in pdfsnake.

Does anyone know if Imposition Wizard, Montax or Imposition Studio 7 would be able to handle creating the Duplo templates properly?

Yes, Montax will do this. They offer a trial that's limited by size but you can certainly see that it will work and you can't beat the price for what you get. I've been using Quite to do all my imposition but Quite doesn't make it as easy as Montax does for imposing sequential items down a row for the Duplo. Montax will also give you the option to add the registration mark to your layout. I found Montax to be a bit confusing at first but if you stick with it you'll find it works well for just about everything a digital shop may need.

I'll second the fact that quite isn't good for sequential items that need to stay in order. It is pretty good at being able to create custom margins, though. We have a Graphic Whizard slitter/cutter that has odd margins and gutters and we're able to set up our business cards easily. We also use it to apply the registration mark needed for that machine. However, if Montax has a trial version, I'd definitely try it out. It seems less expensive than Quite, even with the variable option.

I'd like to make a follow-up and say that I did hear back from PDF Snake support, and after their assistance with one template, I was able to create the rest of them on my own. I did download the Montax trial, which seems extremely robust. That will probably be the route I take if I need to revisit this, but I'll be sticking with PDF Snake for the foreseeable future.
