    Customer file submission

Thanks for all the replies-PrintPlanet is the best! lenasal your experiences mirror my own. It appears there may be a consulting opportunity for someone like myself who is at the tail end of their career. There seems to be a never-ending supply of designers who know jack diddly about prepress...

    Customer file submission

Great feedback people-keep up the comments! As jwheeler mentioned, I am afraid we are going to lose business to a management mindset that thinks files must be perfect before we'll accept them.

    Customer file submission

Oh I get billing for it. We do as well. The gray area we get into is we are now altering their design and "changing their vision". The endless rounds of file submission for their approval creates a time crunch.

    Customer file submission

We have an ongoing debate amongst the Prepress team, management, and customers as to how files should be submitted to us. In most cases, we receive Adobe Illustrator files that need a fair amount of massaging to prepare for our process (we are an industrial screen printer). Prepress understands...

Best screen angle for one color gradients

Sorry-screen printing. I was always led to believe that a 45° angle would set up a mesh moire? Gordo, as you've explained in the past the closest thing Esko has to round is the Circular option. We are currently trying this dot shape. We had been using Elliptical for years but it just seems to be...

Best screen angle for one color gradients

Do you have a favorite screen angle for one color gradients or is it artwork specific? In your opinion what affects the quality of the gradient more, the lpi, mesh count, or angle? 7.5? 22.5? 52.5 or 82.5? Does angle even matter with a one-color gradient? What about dot shape? Elliptical...

Any screen printing experts out there?

We set up our tests with the gradient rotated all differently-it didn't matter. Washed out screen looks good as well.

Any screen printing experts out there?

Thanks Mark-the film used to create the silkscreen is smooth-no banding to add noise too. I believe this is a press issue.

Any screen printing experts out there?

We have a phenomenon happening to our gradients on press. Has anyone seen this before? The films we use to shoot the screens are perfectly smooth but we get a ragged look near the midpoint and again in the lighter tones. We have tried multiple dot shapes, angles, resolutions with no luck...

    Films for screen printing.

We do industrial graphics-automotive, appliances, etc... The Epson doesn't have the quality we require-might be fine for t-shirts?

    Films for screen printing.

We still have a 90's Barco Megasetter Plus with an Esko front end. The quality is hard to beat after all these years.

    Does anyone still use overprint?

C'mon Dov...I have to work with these people. Maybe if I say it with love ;-)

    Does anyone still use overprint?

Thanks Dov for your input. We use spot colors almost exclusively and very little CMYK black text. I avoid the overprint checkbox at all costs but when a coworker observes me using the Multiply blend mode they react with shock and fear of this shiny new technology. If any issue with a project...

    Does anyone still use overprint?

With the ability to set an item to Multiply or Darken so widely available in most graphic applications, is there a need for the overprint checkbox anymore? Just curious.

    Recommend a plotter printer

Agreed-the HP was great...from 1997!!!! The problem is, I just found that Esko has a very specific list of printers they support so my question should be re-posted in the Esko forum. We just need a content proofer not contract or mock-up. Thanks for the response.

    Recommend a plotter printer

We are searching for a plotter to print out blueprints, die lines, and proofs. It needs to integrate with ESKO Automation Engine. We had an HP Designjet that worked well-just got old. We have an Epson UltraChrome but that is a little too nice for our everyday needs. Toner or inkjet-based...

Pdf saved with/without Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities

I don't expect them to understand all the nuts and bolts of color management - just the basics of the trade. Resolution, transparency, blend modes, file types, fonts. These aren't new concepts. Not to mention rotating something 12.98745654789541 degrees or scaling a photo 104.236589 percent, or...

Pdf saved with/without Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities

What is truly amazing to me is that this conversation could have been copied from a 20-year-old thread on this topic. How is it that there is still not an accepted standard for file submission that is taught in "Designer" school? It always seems that the creative geniuses can't be bothered with...
