I'd take what your techs say with a grain of salt. They're not operators, they're mechanics. Not to say they're dumb, but they get trained on the mechanical side, but generally know nothing about the operating side. I'd ask a trainer or if they have a color specialist to get in touch with you...

I always just laminate text weight and let the laminate be what makes the piece thick. I always have issues with card stock not creating a good seal, plus it just seems superfluous.

Our C750 does this too. I think expecting a 30" sheet to not skew on a copy machine is honestly expecting more than the machine is capable of, but maybe I'm a cynic.

Yours looks similar to ours. I don't know if it will fix it, but if you pull down the front panel where the CRT is and reseat all the molex connectors you might have some success.

My boss loves this because we bill for the fixes. Prepress hates it because it's a bunch of awful work that never goes away because our boss would rather bill than educate. As for where these people are getting degrees; they aren't. They're self taught and laughably bad at it.

It's a dying industry. I wouldn't tell a young person to enter this profession. The pay generally sucks for the knowledge and work, and the places that do pay well are awful to work for with cameras on you and terrible management.

The spec sheets says 40–300 gsm, so I'd ask for it to be escalated to a specialist.

Out of curiosity, is it recycled stock? I always have problems with good coverage on recycled paper, specifically Environment PC 100.
