    Contracts...

Right here. As you imagine they are being legal 'bullies.' They will ask for EVERY thing they can get - expecting large corps to hammer the details and lil guys toeing the line. So here is what you can do: PAY for a good Contracts attorney (Big Customer, correct?) DO what they tell you to do...

    Prepress Fun

Like the line from Mary Poppins / Dick Van Dyke - Ed Wynn / "Love to Laugh" scene - " I always like a good joke, and that was nothing like a good joke."

    Prepress Fun

We have a customer who uses wax on trading card wrappers and every time I go to his shop it smells like art boards . . .

E up E down Spreads and Chokes Composites Vinyl Marks Cutters Diffusion sheets . . . . Even the terminology is gone. But semantics STILL MATTER.

    Prepress Fun

Amberlith wouldn't work but if you were lucky, if your art was at 100%, the ruby was clean, fresh, and decidedly well cut/created (few artists were that good) you COULD use them with Positive film, E to E to create film masks. E to E. Been a while since . . .

    Prepress Fun

Audited an art class at the local college in 1998 just to see what they taught for mechanical prep. Wow. Almost everything was at least 30 years out of date. When the instructor asked for comments I suggested that if they wanted be the best at what they were doing they should visit a real print...

    Ricoh c7210sx trouble

Ok - I would start with "What has the tech done to this machine recently?" Especially if this was NOT a problem previously. (We call our Ricoh tech 'Clueless'.) YMMV

When or why is an (expensive) RIP important?

We caught one of them leaving no future date when they could 'adjust' their pricing. The paragraph just said they would change pricing no more than twice a year - just not WHICH year. We said '3 years stable pricing please.' Sigh.

When or why is an (expensive) RIP important?

Hey - that $15,000 per 5 years is only hmmmm - 15,000/1825 = $8.25 per day or $57.75 wk or $247.50 a month. For the software, only. That you THINK you need. That MIGHT not do what you want for that price . . . That DOES NOT get an upgrade or transfer to a different machine. Sigh. I have been a...

When or why is an (expensive) RIP important?

There are many more here who can provide better info. I just tried to summarize MY experience.

When or why is an (expensive) RIP important?

So should you have a RIP and what should it do? Most RIP products are lease only and features drive the cost. Using my previous post as a function list: Determine which functions you have to have for your business. Decide which product(s) will provide those functions. I believe the only RIP...

When or why is an (expensive) RIP important?

Ok - longtime Digital Fiery user here. When it was just one operator (me+25yrsexperience) and a single workstation to send to a digital press then I did NOT need a rip to control for 'factors.' Now with multiple digital presses, multiple workstations, and a wider variety of work, we definitely...

How to "hard proof" in Photoshop?

Profiles be damned - you are asking for trouble. You should change the photo to match the observed/printed sample. Your examples show what should happen if nothing changes between the screen and press - and nothing will change. Now all that said you COULD make this happen with profiles through...

    The New Workflow

We had that discussion. There was no line item in the budget for support or training. Besides the workflow is basically the same as you had - just different. (See SheetSqueezer comment.)

    Networking New Shop/Need assistance!

I am an experienced small network technician - note I am NOT certified in any "OS". Classic Item: Would you operate to remove your appendix? I would not. You should not. You should be extremely careful with your livelihood. There are just too many ways this can end up in disaster. You probably...
