Trouble color matching blues & purples - offset CMYK, G7 methodology, GRACoL 2013

Yes--we typically run one stock, and we're running to standard ink densities. In the past we'd play around with the ink keys a lot more to hit color, but we're trying to get away from that, since it's not always repeatable from job to job.

Trouble color matching blues & purples - offset CMYK, G7 methodology, GRACoL 2013

Hello! We're having trouble matching deep blues & purples on our Heidelberg Speedmaster CD-102. We've been doing our own press curves for about a year now (using Curve4 and an X-Rite ES-6000), and most of the time, it works out pretty well (until there's a change to fountain solution, ink...

    Proofing / eliminating design mistakes?

Our prepress has a preflight form that also serves as the QA form for proofing, and later, stepping for plates. There's a column of parameters for both stages, and two check boxes per parameter (one for the prepress tech, one for QA). All of our jobs are checked by two people at each stage...

Preflight & fix too thin objects

Esko has a feature within their Deskpack tool set called Thin Parts, which is part of their Preflight plugin for Illustrator--it allows you to set a thickness & then adds vector objects to compensate for any areas thinner than what you've specified. It should do what you're wanting. Our...

WT7900 proofer - clogged yellow - can't get rid of it. Any fixes? Any alternatives?

Update--just tried it and still the same thing with the yellow--it's a big chunk of nozzles in the middle (the Epson prints a small line for each nozzle, in a rectangular shape).

WT7900 proofer - clogged yellow - can't get rid of it. Any fixes? Any alternatives?

Gordo, Thanks for the suggestion--it might be possible, but I've never removed a print head completely, and I probably wouldn't unless the proofer was really going out of whack. I'm not even sure that the print head would fit in the cleaner (haven't really researched sonic cleaners before)...

WT7900 proofer - clogged yellow - can't get rid of it. Any fixes? Any alternatives?

Hello! Our Epson WT7900 proofer (six years old this month) is clogging in about 1/3 of the yellow nozzles, and no amount of cleaning/power cleaning/physical cleaning has fixed it so far. Here's what we've done: 1. Run cleanings or power cleanings: these usually result in a "Cleaning Error...

    Alternatives to Esko prepress system?

I hear you. We've gone down this road before, but it's always been more cost effective to stick with Esko than to implement a totally new prepress system. I think the idea from management is to get an idea of Esko's competition in this space. We don't put in that many service calls, but it's...

    Alternatives to Esko prepress system?

So are you using two rips right now? We're an independent company (about 17M revenue/yr.) and most likely we couldn't afford to keep up two RIPs. Volume isn't as high as yours, and we're only processing files for our one facility (one 40" offset, four narrow web presses).

    Alternatives to Esko prepress system?

Hello! We're a pressure-sensitive and cut-&-stack label printer using Esko's Imaging Engine and Automation Engine for our prepress, with Deskpack Tools in Illustrator. We've been on this system for over nine years. The maintenance contract comes up every year and is a bit of a sticking point...

    Imaging Engine Composite screened file?

Just a guess in the dark--maybe try the Data Splitter (using the Output Files: Grouped option) or perhaps the Data Collector? You'd have to insert it right after the Image to Screened Separations (perhaps in the 2nd chain), I imagine.

Flexo distortion - out of register when combined with rotary screen?

Got it--thanks a bunch for the info!

Flexo distortion - out of register when combined with rotary screen?

No changes to plate material or tape to my knowledge, and I work in the plate & mounting areas as well as in graphics, so I've dealt with the plating & mounting. We've had the press for about a year now, brand new when we purchased it. It seems to only be noticeable with combo printing...

Flexo distortion - out of register when combined with rotary screen?

Hello! Our narrow-web flexo press (a Gallus ECS 340) has the capability to print rotary screen in combination with flexo. Recently we've noticed on certain jobs that the screen printing is out of register with the flexo printing, as if the distortion is off. Specifically, the white screen ink...

Colour optimization: Printing black as Inkjet black on Epson 9900

This happened maybe three years ago now, but we had to turn off that option because we were getting a stairstepping effect in some of our gradients. We had a tech come in and play around with the settings, and "Black as inkjet black" was the setting he ultimately disabled. I believe the EFI...

Epson WT7900 - white ink cracking, ink cartridge errors

Question--I just searched for the other two clear items on Epson's website, and they're not there. I know Epson was going to discontinue some of these materials a couple years ago--do you know if any of them are still available anywhere on a regular basis? I actually do have a sample of a nice...
