    Why?(2)

Why do we drive on a parkway? And why do we park in a driveway?

    Rampage Upgrade costs

There is an update to version 12.2. I received it at the end of November 2012. It says that it is compatible with 10.8, but I have not upgraded my production Macs to that yet.

Moving from PSI by EFI to Enterprise

After 8 years of using PSI as our MIS system, we are moving to Enterprise. From what I've seen so far with Enterprise, it looks decent enough. We will be having several WebEx training sessions over the next several weeks. Will anyone with experience with both systems please comment about this...

    InDesign or Illustrator

IIRC, Illustrator CS2 does not allow for multiple artboards so placing them in a 40-pg InDesign document would really help the sanity of prepress. Now that Illustrator does support multiple artboards, I don't mind designers supplying those either.

how to adjust layout for creep

Can you use the "Print Booklet..." feature in InDesign to send to your output device? You can apply creep there.

    Burned by Quark

The only problem is that Quark's flattening abilities is AWFUL. I've been burned a few times.

POLL: Automated or Manual Two-Sided Proofing?

Usually no more than 1/32". But like all devices of this nature it has its good days and bad days. The newer model is better because it uses a camera system for back-up registration.

POLL: Automated or Manual Two-Sided Proofing?

We had a HP DesignJet 1000 with a Techsage SpinJet 1000 attachment up until 5 years ago. Now we have a Preproofer from Digital Imaging. It is 2 EPSON 9XXX stacked on top of each other, the bottom unit rotated 180 degrees from the top unit. The top unit is fed from a roll. It prints the sheet and...

    Missing colours in CS6

Just like PANTONE messed with a good thing and "re-organized" the sequence of colors in their PANTONE+ swatch books, they did the same with their digital swatch books. 540 (and all the other colors) are there, you just have to scroll to find them. The "find" field doesn't work that well.

    Mythbusting! (A bit of fun)

That's because when you place the screen captures at 100%, there is no pixel dithering of the image.

    Friday Funny

My first design used Tekton - that explains why i'm in prepress and not designing.

Pocket Pal by International Paper ;)

Are you using Adobe Illustrator to print?

What about setting up "Printing Presets..." from within Illustrator. You can set-up media size, tray, etc.

    Preps Licensing

For what it's worth.... I have two Macs running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then updated Preps 5 to 5.3.3. Using RAMPage. After the update it was slow, it crashed all the time and I kept getting errors about licensing conflicts. I re-installed Preps and stopped at 5.3.1 and all those problems went away.

I couldn't have said it better.

    Creeping perfect bound books.

If your are running 16-pg signatures creep is negligible so the same method would apply throughout the book. The reason I use 3/8" instead of 1/4" is to take into account the hinge plus the bend/roll of the page as it is opened. I have found that this works almost perfectly.

    Creeping perfect bound books.

Our shop calls this a "visual crossover" situation. If you have a 1/4" hinge score.... On the left-facing page move the image 3/8" to the left. Do the same for the right-facing page moving the image to the right. The only drawback is that you have to export/print your pages one at a time.

    Quark quack up

I know... gotta love it. I have customers that try and "help" us by building jobs as printers' spreads, imposing their own business cards, etc.

    Quark quack up

I would save the file out as a PDF and then place it in either Quack or InDesign with proper size facing pages.

    Convert Pantone to CMYK

I would use the Pantone Color Bridge swatch book. I trust the experts who created the PMS system to tell me what the closest CMYK equivalent is.
