How do you Laminate Book Covers?

Thanks for the input @pippip and @Ynot_UK. Definitely don't want to get too much money involved in this in case something doesn't pan out. But was looking at something along this line. Our labor is pretty cheap so manual feed isn't out of the question. I guess I didn't realize that to just...

How do you Laminate Book Covers?

So I have a problem. We have been getting more and more request for laminated book covers. We generally don't do anything laminated, but when we do we just buy pouches and us a small desktop laminator to seal it. We recently tried it with some book covers. Results were, as you can imagine...

Formax 22S vs Triumph 4315 (Or Formax vs Triump Auto Paper Cutters in General)

Like @TJPrinter said, a good cutter can last decades. We still do our everyday cutting on a Challenge 20. Bought it about 7-8 years ago on Craigslist for $800 and its been a champ. Only thing it has needed is a new hydraulic hose and oil changes. Check around for something used. You might be...

    Automatic Laminator and Trimmer

I’m just going to throw this out there. I saw one on eBay one time that had a bracket on the outside so that it could run non OEM rolls and could run standard cheap laminate rolls. i think I also talked to someone who figured out a way to put the Fujipla roll bracket on standard rolls to save...

    WHAT'S A GOOD DIGITAL PRESS

Thanks. Ive seen the press releases and the brochures. What I (and many others on here) want to know is what is the actual cost of a sheet. Since this isn't an offset press, we would naturally assume that it has a per sheet cost similar to a toner based machine. Sheet 1 cost the same as sheet...

    WHAT'S A GOOD DIGITAL PRESS

Helene, since you represent Landa, can you tell us what the true cost per page is for the S10? Is it any better price wide than the current toner machines out?

    keeping a machine awake/online (Ricoh C5310)

So I looked up the brochure for the printer. The brochure says warm up time is 120 seconds. Are you having issues with having to wait 2 minutes for a document to print? I would think that waiting the 2 minutes 3 or 4 times a day would offset the cost of the electricity used by never letting the...

    Upgrading from the Xerox V180.

Did you ever figure have someone come in and help you out with your machine to get it into specs? Many of us on here, myself included, have shown you that Versants are capable of tight registration and high quality images. I also offered to come over as a consultant (along with a few others) to...

    Paper Shortage

I feel like we have been pretty lucky so far getting paper. We're in the midwest and do about 150-200k clicks/month on 1 press. We have been fortunate that we have been able to get stock in. Actually have 3 pallets of coated paper arriving to our shop tomorrow for a large job we run. But ill...

Toner shortages - Must we resort to this?

The chip thing for Xerox is because they’ve caught people selling contract supplies. The chip distinct a bottle between contract supplies and 3rd party vendors.

Toner shortages - Must we resort to this?

I’d be fired up if a tech wanted to use 10k sheets of mine. I’m sure they wouldn’t settle for 8.5x11 20lb either. Hell I get a little feisty when I walk in after a tech has been there and see a stack of 16pt on the tray lol.

Toner shortages - Must we resort to this?

So I’ve had some random toner bottles that the machine wouldn’t read. Idk about other brands, but I can take and wait until the same color toner gets down to 10% then take the chip from that bottle and put on the bottle that the machine isn’t reading. Been pretty successful doing in this time...

    Xerox Drums Revisited

Agreed. We love our techs as well. We love our local dealer as well too. He’s always helping us out through these tough time’s in getting supplies. But I’d hate to think X is going to keep being this unreliable with parts. Also, remote techs used to be great. Now I feel bad when our service...

    How are custom folders produced?

Doesn’t BlanksUSA or another company make the pockets with tape on them? So all you have to do is print your folder, crease and then stick the pocket on if I’m not mistaken. Pocket might even be printable as well.

    Upgrading from the Xerox V180.

The V180 has some very capable finishing available for it that are Xerox "branded". We have a 3100 with the inline 2 sided trimming and square folding and ill tell you we love it. The 2 sided trimmer isn't great on heavy cover with heavy coverage at the trim lines. Tends to chew more than...

Hmm, I actually might be interested in the aerocut if your looking to get rid of it.

    Gloss Cover Prices...

We don't deal in parent sheets but our most recent order of 12x18 100# Gloss Cover was $117/1000. So take that 4 out and doesn't seem that bad. But were not ordering a skid of it either. We actually dont go through that much cover stock save for a few random orders. Doesn't seem far out of line...

So this thread came up in a search. Just curious if Shredder ever figured all this out and what you are currently doing today about your printing needs.

    Versant Press Drum/Toner/Parts Shortages

Just got 6 drums in! Whew, I was playing with fire for a while. Although if any of you hooligans have any wise ideas of breaking in and stealing the drums just know they're under lock and key and survellience

Xerox square fold trimmer. Any good?

Yeah we do a fairly large volume on it. At min 10k books a month on it and its held up pretty well. I think its got a new set of motors and blade since we've had it. As far as favorite add ons go, im pretty fond of the 2 sided trimmer as well. Sometimes heavy coverage covers dont cut so well on...
