    Alternative to high resolution imagesetting

"I have to maintain a daisy chained mac network of older machines..." Converting old computers into Virtual Machines lets us keep our seldom needed out-of-date software "alive and kicking". This is such a handy and practical solution, I can't understand why it is not used far more for prepress.

Static build up within machine causing registration movement

Sometimes increasing the humidity in the air helps. Years ago, when we had static problems with the films in our imagesetter, we activated a humidifier. We don't need to nowadays, because modern films are created "Antistatic".

    Alternative to high resolution imagesetting

Silver based imagesetter film is going to be around for quite some time. But, Thermal Film may also be an alternative. Not cheap, scratches easily, but needs no processing. OYO, (now under a different name) - for up to 120 LPI @1200 dpi. - (Not suitable for the OP's requirements), but KODAK DITR...

Font management - Mac vs. Windows

We bought the set of FontLab apps many years ago and they performed great. There was a learning curve, which I didn't personally take, but conversions were done successfully. They would be my first choice for any professional font related issue.

In the past (end of the 20th century) the National Geographic magazine was printed Gravure in the US. Several European editions were printed Web Offset in Spain.

    Barcode Software

If all you need is a simple numeric string for ID, than it may well be solved by the use of a generic barcode font in your program..

Brisque Express - how is it hardware restricted?

I got stuck trying to install the OS from scratch. Seems my Cold Boot diskette is not recognized, possibly dead. Can anyone advise how to go about creating a new one? I have the full set of CD's for installing AIX 5.1 and Brisque 5.1 and I want to try a full installation...

Brisque Express - how is it hardware restricted?

I was told Barak Paltiel retired about a year ago, but I was promised to get the answer next week. I'll post my findings here after I try the switch. BTW, in this platform it is not soldered to the motherboard, I had the original motherboard replaced twice, with standard IBM boards. In my...

Brisque Express - how is it hardware restricted?

@Magnus59 I was told that there was only one specific component, different one in different generations of computers. And - the font ID is involved. I'll try to find Barak and ask him. Thank you.

Brisque Express - how is it hardware restricted?

@scotts I am already using Stabilant 22, following your advice several years ago in a previous thread. Seems very good indeed. Many thanks. BTW, since I was lucky to find a brand new, never used computer, I shall try my best to use it instead of the 20-odd years old relic...

Brisque Express - how is it hardware restricted?

I started by asking my very experienced Kodak Field Engineer but he can't remember, so before starting my Trial and Error experimentation, I'll try a long-shot: Our Brisque ver.5 computer (nicknamed "Brisque Express" in its' time of glory - mid/end of the 1990's) is down, displaying errors...

    Fixing Files

Obviously, in a perfect situation (world…) nothing needs fixing - however, stuff happens. There may well be situations when a printer feels that the decision to fix the files and go ahead with the job is in the customers' best interests, such as avoiding delays. However, this decision may well...
