    A Product's Life

'Normal' is basic boring. 'Sport' is peppier/more responsive, but will use slightly more gas. 'Smart' permits the cars' computer to automatically switch between Normal & Sport. The smart LED will change colour depending on the mode it switches between (but you'll know by feel). Lately I've been...

    Color really is an illusion

Balls the same colour is easy! See my previous (failure) post. Doing the illusion = not so easy, as Alan (above) will likely testify. I had to think!

    Color really is an illusion

    Child's play :) 4 Photoshop layers.

    Color really is an illusion

I'm afraid I'm a failure. This was 3 Photoshop layers.

    Color really is an illusion

No maybe about it—there is an error. More than an error. I didn't keep it. I just made 2 layers and applied the Multiply effect to the top one. Tried a few other things . . . nothing came close to an illusion. Have you done it?

    Color really is an illusion

Could it be there's more socery at play here? I can't recreate the effect.

    Color really is an illusion

Maybe if you uploaded it as a .psd with layers intact ;)

    The Real Prepress Job

This has been ongoing since the days of 'camera ready' when customers would bring in a piece of garbage and expect the finished piece would turn out like a piece of art by some magic means.

    Purchasing Printing Business (digital only)

I let it be known to a sometime supplier that I would be retiring soon. That was probably 4-5 years ago. He offered to either give me some money for my accounts, or pay a commission on orders received. Much like a sales commission. I had a reasonable number of clients at that time but we didn't...

Entertainment Weekly and InStyle to Cease Print Publication,

200 employees doesn't make it a worthwhile publication.

    Printer's Bookshelf

During my days as a press operator I screwed up a job. I know; hard to believe. My boss/company owner gifted me with a hard cover book, gold lettering, titled: The How To Book On Printing, by . . . It contained about 75 blank pages. It's still displayed in my office. People come in and are...

    Unhappy Returns

Years ago I was the operator on a single colour GTO. Had a customer from an ad agency. It was requested that I work with her to colour match ink for some pretty fancy stationery (many items). For just over 3 hours she had me pissing about. She'd take each new colour pull outdoors to view in...

    How are custom folders produced?

Beat me to it. I was just going to suggest that. Kind of cheesy but if someone only wants a few folders it will work. Folder Pockets - Blanks/USA

    Printer in Toronto

5.5 x 8.5 inches would likely be reasonably close. It's 1/2 our standard letter size of 8.5 x 11 inches. A little narrower than your 148mm. But things can be trimmed to size. There's loads of printers in Toronto. What you have sounds like basically a copy job, assuming it would be small...

    Year End Review

This story is under a paywall. Hopefully this link will work for those interested. It's timely. Published after my initial post. https://12ft.io/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theglobeandmail.com%2Fbusiness%2Farticle-grocery-execs-see-big-bonuses-after-bonanza-of-pandemic-sales%2F

    Black's a Problem

Yeah, you get that. Those that send files to Vista Print get a rude awakening. But in all. It's a good thing for people buying print. Just be cautious. I'm glad I'm out of it.

    Black's a Problem

I believe there were about 6 blacks in the Pantone colour guide, so who can blame them :) I continually get files from a customer with various versions of what's supposed to be the same purple. Some CMYK, some RGB. I gave up. I just correct it & move on. Now that I'm retired, her online source...

    Black's a Problem

Heh; I recall it taking a couple weeks just to get colour separation film. Those asking for a 'black only' deal are dating themselves. Sadly; so am I :(
