    7200 #10 Re-Folding...

We used packaging tape on our 2100 and it runs envelopes like a champ. :)

    Press Hourly Rates...

I can't believe how many low mileage presses are being sold. You can get good 2 color replacements all day long for very little money. My point being that even if we had to replace it, the cost wouldn't really raise our cost much considering how long they last.

What kind of power line filter is recommended? We need one.

    Press Hourly Rates...

Have have seen hourly rates for 4-color presses, but how do others go about pricing smaller presses that are old? We have a couple of small presses that are 20+ years old that we run regularly and I am wondering how others price these. Another nearby print shop seems to treat them like they are...

    7200 #10 Re-Folding...

After more than a year with our Ricoh printers, there is only one thing that still bugs me about them vs our Xerox V2100. That is the refolding of #10 envelopes. When we run #10s they are refolded so that when you look at the finished envelope the new fold is slightly into the flap at the tail...

    EX 180 vs. EX-i 180

You could just send PDF/X-1 CMYK files to the RIP. Having had lots of RIPs from the bustled to the top of the line on machines, I wouldn't ever consider the bustled. It doesn't save that much and the reliability is lacking compared to the external Fierys. The one and only bustled Fiery we had...

How Would You Do This Job?

We don't have the equipment to perfect bind and farming it out costs quite a bit more. The press isn't any cheaper with all the plates and having to collate.

How Would You Do This Job?

I secretly hoped the bid being quite a bit higher would help, but they have the money. I will suggest the colored edge blocks. I have seen those, but hadn't thought of suggesting it. Originally they were going to plasticoil bind them, which would make life easier for us, but then switched to...

How Would You Do This Job?

Our largest client has decided to change their monthly catalog from a basic saddle stitched booklet to something more complicated. We currently print these digitally, 2-up pre-collated then trim and hand feed into our Plockmatic booklet maker. Now they are switching to saddle stitched books with...

Xerox Versant 180 vs Ricoh C7200

Sounds pretty accurate. We currently have a V2100, Ricoh 7200SL and a Ricoh 7210X at our shop. Let me know if you have any questions that others haven't answered.

Difference Ricoh 7200S, SL and SX

I don't know if it can be later enabled or not. The machine is very reliable. We have nothing but good things to say about it.

Difference Ricoh 7200S, SL and SX

We have the 7210X and the 7200SL. Funny thing is the SL has the inline calibration scanner, but it is disabled according to the techs who were discussing it during install.

    Ricoh 9100

Our 7210 runs #10s with the flaps closed all the time. Windows do need to be laser safe or they wrinkle terribly.

Printing NCR and window enveloeps on digital equipment

Our Ricoh 7200s run lots of #10s without opening the flaps. The only issue is that you have to buy laser safe window envelopes. Our Versant 2100 runs cooler and did better with standard window envelopes, but still causes some distortion of the window. The Ricoh 7200s run carbonless perfectly...

    Challenge 305 Troubleshooting...

This sounds like what happened. Our battery failed most likely, we didn't even know there was a battery. Our cutter doesn't have the CRT monitor. After checking the serial number it is a 1994. I found our operators manual, but it says that to re-program you need the service manual. Chock, I...

    Challenge 305 Troubleshooting...

Friday our cutter was working fine. We came in Saturday to finish up some work and noticed the printers that weren't on battery backup were off. So there must have been a power loss. I turn on the 1998 305MPC and as usual after a power loss, the back gauge readout shows 55 inches. I run the back...

Hydraulic Cutter advice- Baum/Polar or Challenge?

Very true, but our 70s 26.5" Challenge is still running on the original hydraulic pump. :)

Hydraulic Cutter advice- Baum/Polar or Challenge?

We have Challenge cutters and have used them since the 70s. I can't say enough good things about the older ones. They are simple and very reliable. Of course the more stuff you get, the more there is to go wrong and if you aren't doing high volume work, do you really need a powered back gauge?
