    Things You Miss the Least

What software features of current or former software do you miss the least? It can be because it was always a headache or something the developer never fixed, etc. I'll start: Pagemaker's (Very Tight, Tight, Loose, Very Loose) tracking and kerning feature

    File Archiving

I agree with Matt. Tape. We have ours set to do an incremental backup daily on one tape and then when jobs get printed, we add the entire job to a separate backup tape.

    College Printing Program Troubles

When I started the graphics program at a two-year university in Columbus, OH back in 1993, They had just sold a brand new large Heidelberg printer and used the proceeds to buy Macintosh computers and Quark, Photoshop and Freehand. The reason being is that it would take two years (or more) of...

We had a half inch of ice here in Columbus early evening on Tuesday, but it was all melted by Wednesday morning when I got up at 5:30. We lost power for about 16 hours at home, but the folks at AEP got us back up and running. I think we got off really easy. I consider us lucky.

Need help with business start up!

I think your best bet advertising/marketing wise would be to strike a deal with the funeral homes in your area. That way, you don't have to do any direct advertising to the consumer at all, the funeral home would do it for you. You give the funeral home a list of your designs/services and then a...

Need help with business start up!

Who will be handling the design if you aren't? There would be software and design issues to overcome on top of the equipment cost. If you're not going to do the design, you'll have to pay for a designer to do that and they (we) don't come cheap. $50 hour unless you strike some sort of deal. What...

    illus trapping and overprint

"Never use multiply for any trapping operations. Just overprint the top colour. The habit of multiplying can be a disaster if any one of the overlaping colour is spot colour. Your rip will convert all multiplied areas into CMYK. " Ours doesn't. It maintains spot colors that have been...

Does Indesign CS4 recognize missing fonts in links?

When you look at the font usage palette, fonts used in images will show up as a separate icon than the fonts used for the document. It will also tell whether they are missing or not. My guess is that the barcode your client is using has the font information embedded within it, which when it's...

Uv coating problem on xerox prints

There is probably a difference where the UV is hitting paper vs. the UV hitting toner on the paper. It's probably soaking in in areas and not in others causing the "wave" problem.

You can also try using Illustrators trapping. I think everything has to be grouped, but once it is grouped select: Effect > Pathfinder > Trap and select your parameters.
