Embedded vs External Fiery Server for printing PDF’s and InDesign

Very true. I'm a mad scientist with this stuff and have many ideas I want to try.

Recommended InDesign settings for exporting to PDF for digital printing?

There's a lot to chew on in these responses. But one take away is a reminder to ask the print shop what preset and settings they recommend. I just find that a lot of the small shops out here don't necessarily know the answers to these questions. (Yet another reason why I will likely get my...

Canon C700 Electrical Requirements in USA

Agreed. I'm leaning towards Not getting the wiring done in my garage. I'm not up for installing an A/C system in the garage, which would take care of the climate control issue. Shortly I'll just take the plunge and get an office space, though I've enjoyed being home based for many years.

Recommended InDesign settings for exporting to PDF for digital printing?

This question is regarding printing to digital presses. Are there recommended InDesign settings that should be used for exporting to PDF? My designs are fairly simple except for black text printed using very small font sizes. So my goal is always for super sharp text, against the white...

Embedded vs External Fiery Server for printing PDF’s and InDesign

Thanks for sharing that experiment. I'm on board with an external Fiery, I just can't justify the cost for my first press and the potential that - though it would be awesome - I may not need it. Good to know that eBay can be a source of used Fiery servers.

Embedded vs External Fiery Server for printing PDF’s and InDesign

Very cool. Ricoh presses are maybe the only major brand I haven't done any testing on yet. Maybe I should. Not sure off hand of shops in town with a C5200 though. I still have some confusion about the need for APPE. I got pretty darn good results on a Xerox Versant 80 with a bustled Fiery -...

Embedded vs External Fiery Server for printing PDF’s and InDesign

All correct - though a sales rep made me aware of a very economical lease on a used C700 with an F200 Fiery. I will likely pass though. Do people lease used equipment?

Canon C700 Electrical Requirements in USA

I don't know exactly how it's configured. I believe it has a finishing unit or two, such as saddle stitcher. I'm leaning towards not moving forward with a lease on a used press. There are so many new options, it doesn't make sense to me. Regardless I may start off with setting up the press...

Canon C700 Electrical Requirements in USA

Thanks to all. An electrician stopped by today and I'm able to add a new 20 or 30 amp (depending on the press) circuit to my existing wiring. Whether I get the C700 or not, I wanted to see if I can accommodate a press in my garage. I'd still like to get an office shortly but at least I can...

Any feedback regarding the KM IC-603 Print Controller?

I'm in the process of selecting my first press. One candidate is the KM C2060 - in part due to lease pricing, which is better than the Xerox Versant 80 or Canon C650. At least based on current rates. KM says that the IC-603 print controller is basically as effective as a bustled Fiery. As...

Canon C700 Electrical Requirements in USA

Hi. I have an opportunity to acquire a Canon C700 with a low meter and am pondering initially having it in my garage until I find the right office space. On the Canon USA site, it lists the "plug" as "Single-Phase 208 V/20 A # NEMA 6-20P" Does anybody know if there is an adapter or other...

Embedded vs External Fiery Server for printing PDF’s and InDesign

The $500 budget is a goal. One misunderstanding I had is that a sales rep I first spoke to quoted me on machines with no Fiery controller but just whatever native print controller the machines come with. I didn't know enough of that moment. Since then I've been doing more homework. I'm still...

What is best Black for text?

Hi. I print color documents that are created in InDesign and either printed from InDesign, or more commonly from the packaged PDF. My goal is that the text is as black as black can be. Looking at the preflight for the the PDF's, the text CMYK is CMYK(0.0/0.0/0.0/1.0) which looks like all 0's...

Embedded vs External Fiery Server for printing PDF’s and InDesign

Joe, yes, 1.5pt. My products all use small font sizes. It's part of their nerdy appeal.

Embedded vs External Fiery Server for printing PDF’s and InDesign

Puch, by transparency do you mean - for example - overlapping layers in the original InDesign doc with less than 100% opacity? My original designs are in InDesign. Typically I'll have a center image which sits on top of a text layer. I play with the color and opacity of that center image so...

Embedded vs External Fiery Server for printing PDF’s and InDesign

I definitely need as much control as possible since my content isn't trivial to print. The whole point of this is to experiment as needed, without being dependent on an outside shop. I'm waiting on some quotes, but will also ask if there's an upgrade path from a bustled to external Fiery - or...

Embedded vs External Fiery Server for printing PDF’s and InDesign

I have been printing test sheets on the presses I'm looking at, but haven't run any live jobs. My jobs wouldn't be too big though, maybe like 500 double sided sheets of either 80# cover stock or a synthetic (still TBD). Actually I should have added that in my OP. I can live with printing...

Embedded vs External Fiery Server for printing PDF’s and InDesign

Hi. I’m looking to lease my first press, geared towards my specific needs which are as follows: -Printing PDF’s and InDesign docs. -The docs are color but are simple designs. -From a printing standpoint, the only complexities are that one side has font sizes of around 1.5pt, all in black...

Any color digital press at less than $10K that can print sharply at 1.4pt?

I'm looking for a digital press that can reliably print sharp color text at 1.4pt in size. In the past, I've had one or two print shops help me with this, but the consistent results are hard to find and I'd like to at least consider doing it in house. So the specifics are (and I have a feeling...
