Is there anyway to get the Pitstop tool icons back, or are we now left with these lame generic plug-in icons?

The mysterious 70% tint in Photoshop

Thanks, everyone. This has been an interesting one for sure. Joe, can you confirm that your document was 16-bit?

The mysterious 70% tint in Photoshop

Totally stumped by Photoshop's inability to produce a 70% tint of any of the process colors. Create a CMYK file (size and resolution are unimportant). Fill your canvas with 70% Magenta. Now place the eyedropper on the canvas and you will see that Photoshop reads the color as 69% Magenta. The...

    GRACoL uncoated?

Am I correct in saying that there is not a GRACoL profile for uncoated stock? If so, are people using a SWOP uncoated or FOGRA uncoated profile instead?

    Identifying layered TIFs in InDesign

Just discovered that Flightcheck has the ability to flag layered files. It will flag all of the layered files, including PSDs. So while it doesn't hold a flame to Kyle's script, it is an option.

    Identifying layered TIFs in InDesign

So sorry to have not gotten back to any of you. I didn't receive an email notification that there were additional comments, so I figured this one was dead in the water. I look forward to testing out your suggestions and will respond back soon! Thanks again!!

    Identifying layered TIFs in InDesign

I'm not a fan of layered TIFs, I still prefer the traditional method of it has layers it's a PSD, if it's flat it's a TIF. We get native files sent back to us from our Repro Houses in Asia. Any color correction and/or retouching that they do is expected to be saved as a PSD. Occasionally, they...

    Identifying layered TIFs in InDesign

Wondering if anyone can suggest a way to identify layered TIFs placed in an InDesign doc. It is nothing that Preflight will flag. Quite certain Flightcheck won't either. I'm hoping this doesn't turn into a "what's better: PSD or TIF" conversation.

Rasterizing Vector and getting inconsistent color

All settings are the same. Same working spaces and same rendering intent.

Rasterizing Vector and getting inconsistent color

I recently had to rasterize some extremely complex AI files. Originally, I had rasterized (opening AI file in PS) to CMYK. The resulting color was pretty far off. Then I rasterized to RGB and once in PS I converted to CMYK. The resulting color was much better. What I can't figure out is why...

Anyone ever work with Lam's Graphic Arts Ltd?

Has anyone ever worked with Lam's Graphic Arts Ltd? Supposedly, they are a repro house in Hong Kong, perhaps with a factory in mainland China. Web search pulls up a phone #, but no email or website. Trying to reach them to see if they hold some old films for a title in which files no longer...

CMYK to CMYK conversions? Best Plug-In? Best way to lower TAC?

Hi, Stephen. We are using SWOP (for our titles printed in the States), mainly because of it's 300% limit. What I'd like to find a solution for is when a CMYK file in SWOP is pushed passed 300%. This is when I have used the CMYK-LAB-CMYK method. Sometimes I can achieve good results with a...

    Some help with FOGRA, please!

Yes, Stephen Marsh had suggested I check out the VIGC profiles as well. From what I have gathered, the only profiles with "FOGRA" in the profile name are Adobe supplied. For example, if I ask one of our Far East printers what profile they recommend they will state FOGRA39, but they will supply...

    Some help with FOGRA, please!

Hi, Puch. Revisiting this thread, what would you say are the reasons that Adobe supplied FOGRA profiles are inferior?
