    Image Quality Thoughts....

Not really. We switched to Ricoh 7210s and they don't have this issue And can do screens without banding.

    Bulk Mailing Dropoff...

We regularly do bulk mailing ranging from a hundreds to a hundred thousand and we submit all of our paperwork electronically. Our local BMEU says that even though we have submitted our info electronically and have money in our account to cover the mailings, we still have to check in with the...

    Customer First

There are a couple of local printers that outsource the majority of their work to trade shops. We do so once in a while, but not often. One of the biggest problems with farming out jobs, is that our customers frequently call in and want to see a press proof and then make changes, yet still want...

    Used digital presses

It is a different mindset running contract machines. From 17-36 I spent my days running offset presses, some of which were past their prime. Fixing parts and doing temporary fixes to get the job done were just a standard part of the job. Later I moved up to newer machines, but still would have...

    New Xerox Machine Coming?

Speed>Price We have tried to outsource, because it can make sense financially, but our largest clients will not wait more than 2-3 days from order to delivery and many times want partials the next day.

    Used digital presses

This guy amazes me with his fearlessness. He jumps right in and starts replacing boards and parts.

    New Xerox Machine Coming?

Yes, we have run lots of pre-prefed carbonless on all machines without any problems. Both the Ricohs AND the Xerox C75 didn't have issues with carbonless messing up the 2nd BTR, so I am not sure why the 2100 does. Our offset presses sit idle more and more. We still run spot color jobs on them...

    New Xerox Machine Coming?

We have two Ricoh 7210s and a Versant 2100. The only thing I would say the Versant 2100 does better than the others is raw speed. You send a long run to it and it just cranks out the work without pauses or hesitations. In every other respect, it seems like it is an inferior product. Our 2100...

    The Great Apple Transition

Some have been saying that the days of X86 are numbered. Coreteks on Youtbue has some good videos and they have discussed why AMD and Intel have a lot to fear from ARM. This makes me think back to the days of OSX and PowerPC. It wasn't fun.

Just Bought a Cold Laminator, Help

We are a 100+ year old printshop that recently installed a large format laminator and cutter to bring more things in-house. For floor decals we used the 3m 40C and then laminated them with Briteline OLFL309 which is 5mil and has a pebbly non-slip finish. It is $360 for 150 foot roll of 54"...

    Envelope Printing

We regularly run #10, A-7, A-6, A-2 and the larger 9x12 and 10x13 sizes. The biggest complaint is that is slightly refolds the #10s towards the tail. Pretty slight, but it is there. Runs the "A" sizes great, but we open all, but the A-7s. On the 9x12 and 10x13s we use the vacuum feed trays, but...

    Versant 2100 13" x 26" revisited

We have a machine with the 27.5" tray that we frequently print 22" booklets on and with bleed we run them on a 24" sheet. On our other machine we have run 32" roll fold mailers. They have 4-8" panels with bleeds. We run a 34" sheet. Since our paper is 28x40 inches, doing anything more than 40"...

What kind of paper cutter are you using?

We primarily use Challenge cutters. Our smallest one is a 26.5" from the 70's that we bought new. It has been remarkably reliable and is used daily. It isn't as fast as our newer cutters, but if you aren't cutting a ton, I would go for simplicity and reliability over speed.

    Toner supply issue

With Xerox we usually kept 6 of every toner on hand. With Ricoh, their system sometimes asks for explanation when ordering, but we just tell it we run heavy coverage work. We keep 5 of each color on hand. If you have issues I would contact your salesman. He is the one that should sort out any...

A couple of questions for US forum members

That is strange to see. Over the years I have always heard on the news that California was needing federal assistance and that they were tremendously in debt. I live in Missouri, and they always seem to have budget surpluses according to the papers.

    Versant 2100 13" x 26" revisited

Maybe because it has been replaced by the 3100, but that doesn't really makes sense considering it is just a software key. I am left scratching my head.
