Xerox Versant 80 v Ricoh C7100X which is the better machine?

Well . . . another update - we are still very impressed with this machine. We had some issues getting the 5th color to work - tech showed up, turned out that they forgot to include a special board for the fiery - once they put that in, presto 5th color works (still haven't had a lot of time to...

    Xante Platemaker 4 issues

So not to be a nit picker but you are worried about a .6% difference on a plastic plate . . . . if there is an issue with that tolerance you should move to metal plates . . . or you could print it at, say .993377 and that would compensate for it pretty closely . . .

Designer showed a customer final files without overprint preview settings on, really?

Interesting, InDesign will not even let you apply overprint to a white object or a white stroke . . . Illy gives you the message - but I don't think I had ever seen it before because, 1. I don't do a lot of work in illy, and 2 I know that nothing good ever happens when you overprint paper/white...

How many of you would accept this as a proofing strategy?

We have a customer, a housing development company, that has 10 or 12 brochures that their "designers" (aka secretaries that have a copy of InDesign on their computers) create files for us to print. Currently, (not my idea) we take their work, check for "printability" i.e. bleeds, and proper...

here in Kalifornia, at least the the counties surrounding the San Francisco Bay, we are required to keep track of our VOC usage and be able to call up any periods usage whenever the inspector pops in . . . and as to using alcohol and other solvents that actually work, that is strictly verboten...

Support contracts for those with two platesetters???

No . . . we have one that is working and one thats for parts . . . but (knock on wood here) haven't needed help with the processor yet . . . but we take pretty good care of it . .. Violet is messy, and tends to get away from you if you don't do the right maintenance on time.

Support contracts for those with two platesetters???

We have two prosetters for the mechanical backup and no service contract . . . as I recall the mechanical backup cost as much as buying a used one after a couple of years . . . but we do have one software contract so staying current is a constant cost

How do I explain to a client that a CMYK value is not an actual color?

Magnus, you and your client are in for a real treat. Have you ever seen a corporate logo/color spec book, UPS's book is like 1.5 inches thick and covers everything from printing to sign making, vehicle wraps, vehicle painting, building signs, logo sizes, logo used in black and white, if they can...
