    Perfect Binder Specs

Good luck Pokei, I've seen some absolutely amazing projects done in small workshops, it's not rocket science! Why don't you post some pictures & progress reports as you go? I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd enjoy that. A couple of things, not sure if they help or not. The cycle speed on...

    solids cracking after creasing /folding

if you have a morgana machine (we have the autocreaser) then its worth knowing that you can also get a "narrow" die set as well as the standard one that they all come with. We got this option and it does work better on lighter paper. Hope that helps.

    Xerox Color 1000 Press

Sorry Josh, just my form of humour, probably twisted by being stuck here at home on antibiotics and prescription painkillers instead of being at ipex where I'd planned on being. I was clumsily pointing out that hydration, although it sounds exactly right, is in fact already a technical name for...

Laminate / Cello for Digital Printing

if you're talking about single sided laminating, we've had good results with D&K superstick. Lots of nip pressure required though.

    Fight of the century

Yes, from KM direct (we're an existing customer). I'm not under NDA, but I guess until Ipex it's not really fair to blab specific prices that we've been briefed on. In a system 7 configuration (i.e. basic, no finishing) and without the new de-waver, you are looking at much closer to the X800...

    Fight of the century

Yes, that's what I just said didn't I? I don't know where you got your $80K figure from, but it's many times too low.

    Fight of the century

surprised by the km8000 positioning surprised by the km8000 positioning Well having now had "my expectations set" by KM, I must day that I'm really surprised. Previously I'd understood that the c8000 was set to be a competitor to the x7002/8002, however KM say that it's positioned squarely...

    Digital Workflow

Quite hot has the same (pretty good) automation functions as quite imposing plus. Thumbs up from us on it EXCEPT no intelligent/auto ganging (of course digi printers don't need this). We'd really like the best of metrix & quite hot in one product! IMO there isn't a set of "out of the box...

    Digital Workflow

That's a really big question! My opinion is that the keys are (i) processes (we're ISO9001:2008) (ii) automation. We're a similar setup, just a bit bigger + litho as well. We can process an order for a single book, manufacture and ship it within 24hours and at the other end of the scale we...

new X800/1000 WILL be at Ipex

No, I just don't get the duty cycle / pricing either. If you crunch the numbers that's roughly a 42% gross margin at 100% duty cycle, factoring only lease+maint+clicks. A very efficient way to go bust IMO. I think the duty cycle needs to be at least double that to realistically start making a...

new X800/1000 WILL be at Ipex

news from Xerox:- Xerox to bring 800/1000 machine to Europe at Ipex | printweek.com No word on orders / ship dates, so I think we have to assume it's a little while away from actual customer installs. Also no word on whether this is a working machine, or just a "show & tell" type preview.

    Will volcano kill IPEX?

Well, if all air travel is still grounded by then for most of western europe, then I think Ipex is going to be the least of our worries. PS - can you believe it; HMS Ark Royal, HMS Ocean and HMS Albion are sailing to repatriate Britons stuck overseas!

    Km c8000

Well I think 350gsm is within spec, are you saying that it won't duplex over 300gsm? If so that's a shame. IMO the big opportunity they missed was leaving the max sheet size the same. It would have been VERY useful if it had been increased to B3.

    Xerox DC242 or DC250?

DC250 is definately an older machine. Pretty much identical, but Xerox seem to have some very, very short life cycles on these boxes that cross over between office to light production. X33 (a Xerox bod) was on this forum some while ago warning that DC250s were no longer going to be supported...

    Km c8000

The pictures I saw were in a KM presentation a couple of months ago, sorry no copies allowed. Uber, they treat you like a mushroom! BTW I only meant that it looked a little bit like an iGen with the "wardrobe" in the middle, I think it's intended to be more a x8002 "class" machine.

    Km c8000

Last thing I heard is that the (European) launch would be Ipex in May, so I doubt whether you'll get much "official" information until then, but it's in "open secret" mode now, so I suspect your K-M sales rep will happily tell you what s/he knows. I think that probably KM might take your order...

    Information

Most vendors are on an all inclusive click rate (I think only Kodak aren't) and I wouldn't touch 3rd party toner with a bargepole. The best piece of advice anyone will give you today is this: hire a qualified and experienced digital printer. Don't try to retrain anyone in the short term, you...

Upgrade from DC 250 - Advice needed

my 2c worth: we run multiple 6501 at relatively high volumes (about your highest end) and they're fine. Colour matching / consistency is going to be a challenge on any of these machines, but all should be significantly better than your 250. The Oce is a 6501 with a different badge and as Canon...

What digital engines are comparible to the Xerox 5000, 7000/8000

First of all, I'm amazed that Xerox hasn't sorted this yet. Best result all round is of course getting your 7002 working to CED. The most comparable on paper is the Canon 6000/7000VP. Be prepared for a bunch of Canon sales reps on this forum to tell you how wonderful they are and a bunch of...
