    Unknown Feature Discovered In Illustrator

A little late to this discussion but wanted to add that appearances from the appearance palette can be dragged to graphic styles and quickly applied to other elements. Hugely convenient for pushback settings that need to be applied to many elements in a design for instance. Highly recommend...

Please give me your advice before I pursue purchasing used Adobe CS6?

100% true!!!!! Pretty big hurdle! And there are some other small issues I have with the software, but I do believe they will have it sorted still by the end of this year. I know you have heard what they have to say wonderings as I have seen your username on the Affinity forums and they are not...

Please give me your advice before I pursue purchasing used Adobe CS6?

Highly recommend you investigate Affinity if cost is a major hurdle. It can do "most" of what the CC apps can do at a FRACTION of the cost. https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/designer/

Software used with an X-Rite iO device to analyze color

Sorry... I missed the "free" part!! Indeed nothing from Esko will be free. I do think color port and i1Publish from xRite will do this and they both have a free mode. Cant say for sure, but may be worth checking them out.

Esko's color engine will do this.

    Prepress or pre-press art?

I have found that even if the customer makes the conversion themselves they still have no way to view that conversion in a way that your press will output it. Sure you could supply them with an ICC and hope they have a quality proofer that is maintained properly but then your back to the issues...

    Prepress or pre-press art?

If you could get "art that is submitted print-ready, according to proper specs by the client" it would be great! But I think that is the goal of most printers and the reality is that rarely if ever happens. So you run into the classic situation of taking the job and needing a prepress department...

Finally a viable alternative to PhotoShop?

I highly recommend you try them both. They are really great programs!! The only downside I found aside from them not taking your money every month :) is the learning curve on the tools and pallets. Its a bit of a struggle to get used to the layout after 20 years with adobe. I recommend the...

Deskpack and Illustrator CC2014 - Waiting on Esko, AGAIN!

Simple, because it takes up 2/3 of the width of my second monitor. And forces all panels docked with this panel to the same width. And because that is a basic function of any UI. When switching to "all page boxes" it does resize but I don't use that view so thats of no use. And just so you know...

Deskpack and Illustrator CC2014 - Waiting on Esko, AGAIN!

Jose- You are correct, I misspoke. Ink Manager does resize but Trim and Media box still do not.

Deskpack and Illustrator CC2014 - Waiting on Esko, AGAIN!

Japa- Thanks for the clarification, but I was simply pointing out that the original news release from Esko said September and now it says October. And FYI we have been down this road before with posted release dates and then a revised date and then another revised date etc. So lets keep fingers...

Deskpack and Illustrator CC2014 - Waiting on Esko, AGAIN!

And now we can pay monthly for our software we can't use... Gotta love it! http://www.esko.com/en/company/press-and-news/news-overview/2015/saas/

    New Yosemite 10.10.4 release...any issues?

schneidere- We have tested it and everything appears to be working fine. If you had to wait for Esko to test you would not be upgrading for a while.

Deskpack and Illustrator CC2014 - Waiting on Esko, AGAIN!

And if you have not noticed yet, Esko now pushed their release back to October. So we should have our plugins by maybe the end of the year. But with all the existing bugs included free of charge ;)

    Digimarc

Thanks for the info. I could see where it could be successful on digital. The technology itself seems pretty cool. Some of the negatives I have heard are that the process degrades your image quality by adding noise and increases the size of the images about 150%, so you end up with bloated files...

    Digimarc

Have a customer interested in adding a watermark element to their artwork using Digimarc (Digimarc (DMRC) | The Barcode of Everything). Have any printers, Flexo or otherwise had any success with this system? Seems to be very little info available outside of Digimarc sales stuff and the other...

    Prepress Training

Out of curiosity, who are the "They" that you speak of? We have a pretty good technical school near us that does a good job with a lot of prepress specific skills but from my experience actual quality prepress training is few and far between. Please let us know of these other places people can...

How many years do you hold onto customer print files?

We also keep all files forever. We average ~6000 files a year and our used storage is around 6TB. Storage is so incredibly cheep these days you may as well keep files forever. We store on Drobos using dual redundancy (mixed feelings on the Drobos but overall pretty solid) with multiple copies...

    AE 14 Question

In jobs overview you should be seeing ALL jobs created in ALL containers. When you copy a job from 2014 to 2015 you will have to remove the job from 2014 also. The jobs become kind of a pain when using years to separate jobs but that is the way we do it also. The alternative would be to have...

You can also use the "move/copy" function and copy the file to the tmp folder and delete that when done.
