FDA Varnish for Thermal Transfer printing

Not sure of a TT that will print and stay on top of the varnish, but why not use a spot coating and allow them to print in the unvarnished area? Just a thought....

Does anyone has Xrite iQC import able pantone lab value?

Yes, based on my experience, you should always start with an ink drawdown on the actual substrate. There is no safer way to establish a color target.

    auto duplex or not?

Let the machine do the work it's built for, auto duplex. Instead of an operator flipping and loading stacks, they could be preparing the next job. Work smart not hard.

    Xerox 700 Artwork

In my former life I supervised digital production running iGens, when we installed it Xerox provided a file on "How to Design for Digital"; you should inquire with your rep and see if they are familiar with this booklet. In the mean time, I'll look and see if I can find a copy of it.

    Legal ?

You can turn away any job you want, and you don't have to explain why. Simply say we are not interested in bidding on this job, at this time. Just because you're a printer doesn't mean you HAVE to accept every job on the market.. and again, you do not have to explain yourself or your business...

    Checking barcodes in PDF Proofs

No, we don't normally experience the wrong human readable vs/ the barcode. However, I have seen it more than once. Further, it is a required part of our process/sop to read and confirm the barcodes are: 1) correct type of code (eg:128, I25, etc) 2) Pass ANSI grade of B or better 3) correct data...

    Checking barcodes in PDF Proofs

I guess I should add we currently check all barcodes w/ a handheld reader on hardcopy proofs. Confirming the human readable matches what the barcode is programmed to read. Just because the human readable portion of a barcode says "12345", doesn't mean the code reads that when scanned. Thank...

    Checking barcodes in PDF Proofs

I'm investigating a solution for reading/checking barcodes in PDF proofs from our printing vendors. I know Enfocus has InstantBarcode that will create & check in Illustrator, but this will not suffice. I need something that will work with PDFs. Looking for the following requirements to be met...

    Is Microtext useful on offset?

Pharmaceutical counterfeiting is B-I-G money. This is just one (micro-text) way Pharma tries to fight it off. It costs the industry billions of dollars a year, and poses a terrible risks to all consumers world wide. Most CtP devices today are (or can be, not all) capable of imaging micro text. I...

    Offset Paper and Digital Machines

In my past life, I ran about 90% 'offset' stock through my iGen3 with no problems. Do you really think they are making that 'digital paper' much different, in the manufacturing process? You need to visit a mill if so. As for 'brands', I've visited mills and seen with my own eyes, sheets coming...

AVT makes good products. I have a few vendors who are using AVT on press, and some on rewinders after press. Primarily in the flexo label market.
