    Expanded/Extended gamut proofing.

We have aging equipment that needs to be replaced asap and our company is taking a serious look at ECG so I was hoping futureproof as any purchases that prepress needs are scrutinized. Substrates: Clear film and metalized film. Gloss lam and matte lam (done in line). Hardware/Software: ESKO...

    Expanded/Extended gamut proofing.

Hello, I'm looking for any help on a 30" proofing device that can produce accurate EGC proofs using EQUINOX (for printing flexible packaging). Has anyone been producing these proofs and if so what are you using? The Roland VersaCamm is intriguing to me as it can print on clear and has the...

    Problem in flexo printing

Does this happen all the time with film or just this job? Looking at the press two things come to mind. Not certain as there are a lot of variables that can cause this. . . 1. Could be improper impression wear (the plate isn't releasing from the analox before the idle rotation starts) if it's...

    Flexo ctp

It was easy to say ESKO or KODAK a few years ago but I think the competition has really picked up the pace in this sector. If I were looking today I would say it really depends on what you are printing and how you are printing it. Someone printing unsupported film @ 133-150lpi is going to have...

    Creative Cloud thoughts

I can picture major disasters in places that use things like DeskPack or other plugins like we do. I have visions of logging in one day with a full stack of jobs only to find that nothing works and there is no way to "rollback" efficiently. By that I mean *Click*. And the double DING...

    Prepress Tips for Designers

The wonderful "electronic" age where for a quick $50 anyone can be a designer using the world class Adobe Suite. At the same time the tools for the prepress industry set the expectations on us as giant button pushers. No matter how much we try to educate our salespeople they turn around and see...

    Prepress Tips for Designers

If we provide you with a bag/pouch/label die/template do not alter it. It will save you the shock of an additional $1,000 to your quote. They are metal tools that need to be made for each size.

    Asset management and customer history.

In looking around I've found that there are as many D.A.M. solutions as there are leaves in my front yard. So I'm hoping for some help. Our focus is on packaging (so labels, film, foil, bags, boxes). what I hope to accomplish: Find a front end for prep that has search capabilities, contains...

    Pantone Color Manager (rant)

Look at Pantone 165 through the years. Talk about a color shift! The one that leaves me scratching my head the most with Pantone is that they make a book for "designers" but where's the book for the production side of things. Who thought that a press operator should go to an index to find the...

Has anyone else put Skype in the Conference room.

Curious if anyone else has implemented remote video for the conference room? (like Skype hooked to a tv?) If you have what did hardware did you end up going with? Are you happy with it?

    Dot gain in shadows (flexo)

We have to examine every sample we get very closely as it seems everyone has a "trick" that they do in flexo printing. Well, if you're trying to duplicate it that is.

    AE10/FlexRip designer/Technical ink book issues

Check the recent updates for 10. For some reason I think I saw a hotfix that addressed technical colors. Could be wrong but worth looking.

Has anyone used ESKO server/tools from remote workstation.

RIP and licensing server will be in one state while the user will be in another. Se we'd need the ability to use the Deskpack plugins as well as pilot. Just curious if anyone else had tried this and what was your end result. I was thinking a VPN connection should provide the connectivity...

    What is giclee printing?

    - Billw, My original comment was that everyone does it. In tune with Gordo's no? It looks like I picked the wrong company to poke at (as I could've used about any of them). Gordo brought up the Samsung/Apple litigation in a serious defensive response to a joke. Nothing more. My "apparent"...

    What is giclee printing?

Woah fan boy central. I find it comical how Apple fans justify suing the crap out of everyone for stealing Apples "ideas' but then use things like "being first is not always the important thing" when Apple is taking from someone else (Cloud Sync, OTA updates, opening up 3rd party apps to share...

    What is giclee printing?

That 1984 MAC didn't borrow anything from what APPLE stole from PARC did it. But hey. Everyone is allowed to overlook the obvious fact that bickering over the size of a font or button or rounded corners does nothing but make the lawyers rich and the people pay more. As long as there is no...

Printing Gurus Please help to identify the machine / technology. Thank you.

The ones I've seen are printed using Comco ProGlides (Flexographic). Not sure on the UV part (I would think you'd have ink cracking issues if it were UV). Then the tubes are formed/seamed off-line. At least that's been my experience.

Overprinting Issues - Who's fault? Any good way to prevent?

Surely you can't be serious (some Airplane humor). Overprinting elements occur on Flexo jobs all the time. Intentional (to create an extra tone from 2 spots) or not (element is too small to trap with Flexo standards). The results can drastic as the inks we use are pretty translucent as well...

    Proofing for Flexo

Using the Indigo is not a bad idea as it's just an output device. Sounds like you just need to profile the presses. Biggest thing is you need your press room on board with your process. What is the press room currently doing to ensure repeatability? (density readings? LAB readings? Etc.).
