    piling on webpress

Ive hit 175k on 40# grade 5 gloss, not washing blankets at all. Would have tried for more if the splice wouldnt have jammed the folder... I'd say regularly on said paper I can hit 100k to 140k, but sometimes as low at 35k.

    Rollers, rollers, rollers!

We run Akorn rollers in everything we have. We have a Goss Magnum that came with Finzers, had very bad results with them. They would shrink rather quickly. The Akorns we have last easily 2 or 3 times longer in the Magnum vs using the Finzers.

Old school and/or New press ?

I think you are referring to ink "ductors", but what about ink meters? On the Magnum I run, and an old Hantscho press we have, We have meters, which are steel gritty rollers constistantly touching the ink fountain roller and the rest of the ink train. Thoughts on the meters?

Conventional blanket Vs Metal back blanket

I'm a bigger fan of the steelbacks. Seem to not crush as easy after a wrapup. The otherones seem to get grainy to me.

    wet packing

I run a late 80's Mitsubishi Lithrone 750 web. We run paper packing under the blankets, and it always seems to get wet. Any ideas on how to get around this? They only last about 2 to 5 weeks it seems like. We've tried grease on the edges to block the water, but that hasnt helped at all. They...

    Throwing press plates

So if it's wearing too quick and cracking a lot you would go to a smaller packing then?

    Komorimatic Damping

on a system 38 its form to vibrator at 3/16", form to plate at 1/4", meter to vibrator at 3/16" and then meter to chrome until the waterfeed stops around the meter.

We used a grinder before and after.

    Recommendations for Cylinder Repairs

We accidentally did that on a Komori Sys38 between the blanket cylinders on the 1st unit. We ground it down, added "quicksteel" and its been fine ever since. That was about 2 years ago. Of course we use steelback blankets, so that makes a little bit of a difference. I'd recommend it as a temp...

Goss An interesting and innovative press manufacturer

I don't know that much about it, because I'm never on that press. I do know that the techs installing it didn't really know what they were doing. The copies are always marking, and there is a bunch of other electrical problems on it. You'd figure when you spend a few million bucks on a brand new...

Goss An interesting and innovative press manufacturer

they may have a bunch of new innovations, but I think they are junk. The place I'm working for bought a new Magnum 8, and lets just say we call it the POSM. We only can run one job on it that looks good, and its 5 webs of 18# black over black. Other than that...it gets us a lot of recycle income.

    Heatset Full web

1st op, 2nd op, and a helper or two, depending on if the auto stacker works or how fast we runnin.

Ink transfer changes with aging blankets

We've had that problem a few times. We use a blanket rejuvinator that helps out a lot. The image is stained on the blanket, but doesn't show up in print after we use the rejuvinator.

    Web Pressmen

My pressroom has a magnum 8 w/ 2 towers and it sucks horribly. I wouldn't work on that junk press even if they offered my 4+more bucks an hour. And the things only 7 months old. The navy wouldn't even buy it for a ship anchor i'd bet.

    Normal packing vs permanent packing

1st and 3rd shift are just here for the paycheck, i think. we run permapack and steelback blankets. works pretty good minus the fact we take our plates off by hitting the forms and taking them off in forward. trail edge hits the permapack and ruins it. other than that i'm a huge fan of the...

Anyone have any openings for a 2nd pressman near State College, PA? I'm moving out there in a month or 2 and want to stay in the printing industry. Thanks, Andrew

    Ink Calculation Formula

We normally just figure about 1/4# per 1000 impressions on the web heatsets. comes pretty close most times unless its really heavy coverage.

    lower tack ink

yeh its on an 80's Komori Sys 38, heatseat web. We could get 100k before washing blankets, but the ink fountains looked like they had sand in them. The keys were at 75 or so and the fountain roller looked "zeroed". So if you force it through which is probably bad for the keys, it would bring the...
