    Splody dots

Asked pressmen for clarification because the "speed" being 12% slower did not make sense to me (and still doesn't). Was told it was set that way to remove hickeys, however, it was discovered that the water form roller stripe was too fat measuring at 8mm, which caused (in retrospect) the pressmen...

UPDATE: Last time I posted, things were much better, but not perfect. However, very sellable. This week it reared its ugly head again. Days in one of our pressmen suggested that the water form roller was not set correctly. Turned out it was rotating 12% slower. (I'm paraphrasing here) Voila, no...

Can you elaborate on what you are looking for?

    Splody dots

Yes, we are using TopKote, 100lb gloss text, 197M I think it's the paper because our previous paper (Endurance 100lb), of which we have a small amount remaining, when tailed into any set running TopKote, does not produce "splody dots". I read the pH closer to 8 (sample on the left).

UPDATE: Acquired a pH pen that shows approximate pH. After several attempts to create a clean example, this is the best I got. See attached. question: would you think this difference in pH necessitates a different FS for each paper? (what's not shown is our previous paper, which had a very...

Update (about the Calcium Slayer & Flush): The attached pic shows the crud after one application. We did it a second time and hardly anything came off the rollers. But it's important to note that prior to this, we performed 3 cleanings with another product.

    Splody dots

Update: Press unit was thoroughly cleaned using Calcium Fix (3 applications, actually) and Febo. Tests were slightly better. We then reduced water and again, slightly better. We then tried a new cleaning product, Calcium Slayer & Flush*. Tests were noticeably better still, but not yet perfect...

Thanks Alois, But can you stop yelling? What is your suggestion for a good wash? That said, we are using Boettcher Calcium Fix and Febo. Press guys like to use hotter than warm water, but not too hot since that's almost impossible around here. Can you enlighten me as to why not use hot? My tool...

Another update: Also tried out a thinner, less pigmented ink, which also improved the condition, but did not eliminate it.

    Splody dots

Quick update: Blankets look good. So we turned down water to point of scumming. Splody dots still there (although they looked slightly better than with normal amounts of water). Another theory (Alois, please do not read as a conclusion) is that our rollers have excess chemistry from clean-ups...

Alois, Ok then. Too much water. Glazed blankets. Will follow up with findings.

Cornish- We're going on the theory that our ink is emulsifying more with this paper than the rest. Or that this paper causes a similar result as emulsified ink. Like maybe the calcium is super high in this stock??

    Splody dots

    what's the logic behind that?
  15. C

    Splody dots

Yes. Same for all colors. Take my word for it? Our current approach is to test a less strongly pigmented ink. This will not happen until after next week. I think it will be better, but I also think it will be more or less, a "band-aid". And if it helps, we would have to recalibrate and all that...

    Splody dots

Recently switched sources for our 100# gloss text. The new paper does not print well as well as the previous paper. We get what I call "Splody-dots". Unfortunately, it took awhile before we noticed this when we printed some very light screens and was extremely difficult to control the results...

    Profile Anatomy – why A2Bn & B2An ?

    1) Why there is a difference when converting in Photoshop and when converting in the RIP as explained above? I use Prinergy and came across this same situation years ago. The folks at Kodak once explained to me that the difference is in the converting engines and that because the engines are...
