    Dampening Issue on Komori Press

I'm not entirely sure which things changed with the B2 series, but here are some things I would check from working on other lithrones (im sure you have probably already looked at a few of these): -Double check ratio and setpoints in case someone has messed with them -Clean circulator filters...

    Ink Rub-Resistance Testing

Dear all, We have recently been given access to an abrasion tester (A taber abraser machine) that we would like to start using for recording rub resistance of our sheetfed inks and for when we trial new ones. Do any of you have experience with this? I am trying to find out what a...

Need Advice on Quality Control and Process

One suggestion is to save a sample copy from the beginning and end of every run you print. In the event of problems, having a first and last copy can be helpful in investigations.

    Identify these press marks?

Hello, those marks are very similar to what we get from time to time here. If it is the same problem, we traced it back to contaminated bits in our water system. From the oscillation movement, it ends up creating a pattern that looks like small "tracks" that eventually end up scratching the...

    Powder system

A question to my fellow sheetfed operators out there: Does your powder system have a noticeable effect on your sheets? Our powder unit does not appear to have much impact on the process, and never has. Currently, whether we run it 100% or 10%, there seems to be little to no difference. We...

    Viscosity of Aqueous Coatings

Dear all, I'm looking for a conversion sheet, or at least a formula, and I was hoping one of you might have it. - Need to convert viscosity readings from a Zahn 4 to a Zahn 3 cup. (I have a recommended viscosity with a Zahn 4 but need to convert it to a 3). - Need to know how much...

    Statistical process control?

Hi, A few examples of what we personally have found helpful to keep records of are the following: 1 - Machine Performance Efficiency - Data logged automatically from the presses and a brief summary report of the months efficiency is prepared by a designated manager. 2 - Paper is...

    Preventive Maintenance

Hi again, Here is some info about the bearers on the press: Not all presses run with the bearers contacting each other. But on a lot of presses, they do. If you have a "bearer-contact" press, they perform several important functions: 1 - They act as a reference point so you can measure...

Blanket Cylinder packing: hard vs soft?

Cornish, have you used this product? It looks interesting... If so, do you like it?

    Preventive Maintenance

Hi there! Cleaning blankets is more from production, and wouldn't necessarily fall under preventative maintenance. You will know when you need to clean blankets, so maybe we can provide some other comments :) The schedule you need to follow can vary greatly depending on your press and your...

Blanket Cylinder packing: hard vs soft?

I liked the soft packing for some of the reasons you mentioned, we found they also were able to take a few more hits. However, we decided not to use soft packings at our shop due to quality requirements. We got "patchy" spots on heavier ink areas and that is a no-go for us since we have to meet...

Ink desities on press are very low. WHY?

Depending on which type of paper you are using, those densities dont seem terribly low... An uncoated paper would be marginally close to the densities you listed with perhaps just a little more yellow. Yes, the image files could cause problems, there are a lot of variables involved. We have...

    Image blinding/ Plate Weak

Like Cornish said, have you tried using ink from a different company? If it is just Cyan you could probably pick up a can yourself from a local distributor, depending on how common they are in your area.

    Image blinding/ Plate Weak

If Cyan doesn't work in another unit then that is good info. Have you tried using a different batch of ink? Go to your ink stock and look for a different batch and throw it in there. It's an easy thing to do if you have a little stock of ink sitting around.

    defect free pharma cartons

Hi yes, we have to print like that. We print a lot of covers for softcover books and since it is the first and last thing everyone sees, we have to meet very tight standards. We have tried to improve different processes throughout our printing to compensate for this (i.e. regular plate curves...
