    ComColor skipping a beat?

From RISO's website, there's 24 print heads in a ComColor. Maybe my use of the word "stitched" was misplaced, but I'm talking about the point where 2 adjacent heads of the same color align.

Marks Lead Edge to Trail Edge

Once the humidifier deposits make their way to the charge wires, they don't go away when the humidifier is turned off. Think of it as a calcium buildup, not moisture. Replacing the charge wires (and ultimately having the Xerox tech clean the ROSs) was the only way to resolve my problem until we...

Marks Lead Edge to Trail Edge

I just went through a humidity "ordeal" myself. The vaporized tap water was putting a coating of minerals on my Iridesse's charge wires and ROS windows, causing a very similar looking print defect. Turning off the humidifier immediately resolved the problem.

    ComColor skipping a beat?

If your lead edge of the paper is the side that your arrows point to (or the opposite edge), my guess is that is where two print heads are "stitched" together. Unless your machine uses a single full width print head, at which point you could disregard this. I would look into if there's any type...

HP Indigo Alternatives - Ideally something that is not dry-toner based

Trying to look at this from a different angle. Is PVC a must? Is film lamination a possibility? If you need to wind up with a 35 mil card (got this from your website), how about an inexpensive color laser printer and a matching inexpensive roll or pouch film laminator? Print on 18 pt. stock...

HP Indigo Alternatives - Ideally something that is not dry-toner based

I've been single-side laminating book covers printed on 10 pt. C1S on Canon and Xerox toner machines for many years now. We run our 1.5 mil film at the same 250-280F. Never experienced any "burning". What do your results look like? Pictures?

    Duplo DBM120 staple problems

You are most welcome! I try to give a chance at being useful to whatever I can, before condemning it to the landfill. I never thought Craigslist Free would be so useful in finding a second home for things like light bulbs, used interior doors, landscaping pebbles and concrete blocks. Not to...

    How to judge paper quality?

About 75% of all the books (these are trade books, not manuals) I produce have cream/natural paper insides. For me it's a matter of customer preference. It's been mentioned to me that it's easier on the eyes compared to a bright white during a long read. The availability of size and weight...

    Paper Banding machine recommendation

Are there any minimum stack heights on the machines you guys have used? I've looked at a few spec sheets but can't be sure. My specific application today is to wrap 10 bookmarks of 12 pt.. Stack height is .12"

    Paper Banding machine recommendation

I think I'm looking for something in between the non-powered one and the Duplo/Sunpack machines. My pack quantities will usually be in the hundreds, with jobs weeks apart. I see cash banding machines on the web for $1k or so. I'm wondering if it'll do my type of products, although I wish I was...

    Paper Banding machine recommendation

I have a shrink wrapper that suits me fine for most of my projects which include individually wrapping perfect bound books in the 6"W x 9"H x .75"D range. Every now and then we get asked to produce smaller items like bookmarks and postcards as companion pieces to the books we make. As an example...

    Are Riso ComColor worth it?

I had a ComColor 9050 years ago and can concur that my experience was as bad as @SPP-ShaneC described in the linked thread. I intended on using that machine for envelopes (jams, head crashes, dirty rollers) and short run full color book printing (barely so-so image quality). We tried to make it...

Paper wave/curl caused by office laser printer

@Tradidi - I applaud your entrepreneurship and you wanting to put out the best product you can. I also understand very well the challenges of starting small. At one time my company couldn’t afford a DocuTech so we ran a fleet of HP 5000 laser printers for book printing. Those prints were...

Paper wave/curl caused by office laser printer

Can you give us a little more detail on what you are producing? Considering you're a publisher and also a printer, I'd guess you're possibly making perfect bound books? The photo you posted shows the interior sets. What is the trim size of your publication? Are you printing on Letter/A4 size...

Paper wave/curl caused by office laser printer

I've run LED printers (the roll-fed type) and can confirm the fuser temperature on them was pretty much the same as a laser printer. Fusing is removing moisture from your paper, thereby causing the waviness. Inkjet printers don't have fusers, but you already know the tradeoffs. Bigger...

    Options for coating?

What size sheets? How many? How are you printing them? How much/little are you able to invest? Inexpensive and desktop make me think of a film laminator. Less expensive machine but higher running costs.

SOLVED - Iridesse streaks - charge wires?

Another update - the cause of the problem was our humidifier. Apparently when using tap water, primarily calcium and to a lesser degree other minerals (as per Xerox's analysis) become airborne and wound up collecting on the Iridesse's charge wires, and a lot of other places too. Interestingly...
