a handy little color viewing file

Greetings folks,

Here is a PostScript file that shows you a CMYK build
and then
shows you all of the possible CMYK builds around the specified values.
We use it to tweak colors on the iGEN.

--- IF NOTHING ELSE ... IT IS SORT OF FUN ---
-
Open the PostScript file with "Text Edit" (or similar)
-
You set the values in the "User Modification" area
for C - M - Y - K
"Save" the file
then run it through Distiller
and view the produced PDF.
-
Attn:
a value of 1.00 = 100%
a value of 0.45 = 45%

Very cool WharfRat! I'm trying different values to render a complete chart too. Need some guidance; looking to build in 5% or 10% incremental values. I tried maximum subtractive color values such as C1.00, M1.00, Y1.00 with K being limited.

Thanks,

Steve

I am not much of a programmer, but where in the user modification area do I put my CMYK values? I do not see any spot that sets the print to be C-0 M-0 Y-8 K-15 percent?
Please let me know
Thanks

% ***** START OF USER MODIFICATION AREA *****

% ***** THE FOLLOWING FORMULA IS THE CENTER OF THE COLOR SPACE THAT WILL BE PRINTED *****
% ***** THIS EXAMPLE WILL PRINT C=0% M=0% Y=8% K=15%
/masterC 0.95 def % C in % for CMYK Master recipe *** MODIFY THIS ***
/masterM 0.70 def % M in % for CMYK Master recipe *** MODIFY THIS ***
/masterY 0.25 def % Y in % for CMYK Master recipe *** MODIFY THIS ***
/masterK 0.25 def % K in % for CMYK Master recipe *** MODIFY THIS ***
And from the original post:

Although the values in the file are not C-0 M-0 Y-8 K-15 percent. They are C-95 M-70 Y-25 K-25.

I have plenty of CMYK colour charts, I personally don't think that the tool being discussed here is good for making such a chart (CMYK spectrum patches)...however this tool is great for refining a general known colour, such as trying to eyeball a brand or other spot colour on a digital device.
