Hi,

I am getting confused whenever I open Acrobat->Output Preview and in "Show" I get options RGB, DeviceRGB, CMYK, DeviceCMYK, NotDeviceCMYK.

What is DeviceRGB and Device CMYK

Also RGB objects are shown when I select NotDeviveCMYK

Any help will be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Siva

Show "all" will show elements of all supported color spaces, I suggest you leave it there by default if you want to see every visible element in your PDF. The other options are to sort elements by their actual color space.

NotDeviceCMYK means any objects that are NOT pure CMYK numbers, that is to say the object that are dependant on colour management.

Device CMYK and Device RGB mean CMYK or RGB objects that have ICC profiles attached to describe their color.

If you choose to show "NOT Device CMYK" then everything that is NOT CMYK is shown. That would include un/tagged RGB, un/tagged gray, spot colors, tagged CMYK. Literally everything but untagged CMYK.

When they say "NOT" they really mean "everything but" <insert color space here>.

Device CMYK and Device RGB mean CMYK or RGB objects that have ICC profiles attached to describe their color.

Hey, Matt, isn't it the opposite? DeviceCMYK or DeviceRGB means there is NO ICC profile explicitly associated with the RGB, or CMYK, values. "CalibratedCMYK" or "CalibratedRGB" indicates the presence of ICC profiles, doesn't it?

Adobe Acrobat Pro * Convert colors to a different color space

The whole device vs calibrated CMYK thing is kind of a misnomer. ALL CMYK is device-dependent, but that's another discussion.

Yes Rich, you are correct. I should have said that calibrated means it has ICC profiles. That's what I get for typing while having a conversation with my kids. Maybe I should be focusing on one thing at a time... Thanks for the catch!

Thanks Lukas, they are. Sometimes... For the most part... Well, as much as 12 and 16 year old boys can be...

Where'd that bottle of Macallan go...
