Bearer Bars & Color Blocks

Currently our company uses a RIP called Symphony Flexo made by Xante. We like it because all we need to do is send it a 1-up image and then tell it to step and repeat it however many across and however many around. It does the stepping and repeating, distortion, bearer bars, and color blocks on its own and then turns that into the 1-bit TIFF separations. The problem is that it is a bit limited when it comes to the bearer bar options. None of the templates it comes with are GMI compliant and it can't handle staggered sets at all. In these cases we have to revert back to building the whole plate file manually in Illustrator and sending that as a 1-up image.

So how do other companies set up their bearer bars and color blocks? Any recommendations?
