Has any manufacturer said what the service life is for inkjet heads.? I have seen anywhere from 150,000 8.5 x 11's to 6000 hours.
An inkjet printer using the 150,000 piece heads that is capable of 2,500 8.5 x 11 sheets per hour could blow through heads every 75 hours. At 24 hour 5 day a week operation would need to replace heads 1.6 times a week.
I have seen this same head on some web label presses at 150 feet per minute you would get about 1,000 minutes or 16.7 hours of production before you would need to change heads.
A 24 hour 5 day a week operation with the 6,000 hours of head life could go over 48 weeks.
You would go through 400 heads of the 150,000 rated impression head verses 1 of the 6,000 hour heads.
If the 6,000 hour head cost 100 times more than the 150,000 impression head it would still be only 1/4 th of the cost .
Now if it takes 10 minutes to change the 150,000 head and you need to do it 400 times that is 4,000 minutes or 67.7 hours of production time lost just to change heads.
