Kodak Matchprint Color RIP

We have an older Kodak Matchprint Color RIP, version 2.6. The proofer is an older Epson 7600. We wish to upgrade to a newer Epson proofer. Can anyone tell us what is the latest Epson we can upgrade to, using our same RIP.
Any info on this is much appreciated!

Regards,

Hi!

Actually that RIP has not been updated in years by Kodak. Qualification stopped with the release of the Epson Stylus PRo 7600,9600 and the mighty 10600. So if you are interested in the Epson x900 or x880 systems you will need to do an upgrade.

The recommended replacement RIP is Kodak Proofing Software(Kodak Proofing Software )which supports the latest and greatest from Epson if that is your printer of chioce. Kodak does have trade in offers to make this an affordable upgrade.

SueK,

Looking at the link you provided it seems like Kodak proofing works best with prinergy. How well does it integrate with other rips?

Are there any upgrades coming soon and what would those new features be?

Are the support plans all inclusive renewable year to year?

Hi!

Kodak Prooifng software come with an open connectivity kit, free of charge, which allows you to submit from a variety of external workflows. It has an easy to use hot folder functionality that allows you to simply drag files into the system and off to the intended proofer. So while it has great integration with Prinergy workshop and the still loved Brisque, you can easily use it with Nexus, Artworks, etc.

The new edition of Kodak Proofing Software, version 5, is coming out at the end of the summer with new features around color control and advances in profile and device link generation. the packaging edition is also coming out in the fall with new connectivity to the epson WT7900.

In terms of the support plans I would suggest you discuss with the Kodak representative as there are several opitions available depending on need.

That's not strictly accurate about MatchPrint being discontinued. The MatchPrint Inkjet Proofing System is still alive and well at: KODAK MATCHPRINT Inkjet Proofing System - Kodak Graphic Communications Group

I use it daily. It's been updated not so long ago to v4, which supports all the newer Epsons, including the x880 series (4880, 7880, etc.) and the newest 7900 and 9900. The workflow is the same, it has a stripped down version of Kodak's high-end PDF workflow built in (described as Open Connectivity), but behaves as a stand-alone proofer based on hot-folders and a server/client setup for administration.

I would guess there are upgrades available from 2.6 to v4, but you may also need to upgrade the hardware (the actual computer) driving the RIP.

Hi Again!

Yes, Kodak Proofing Software, which is an integral part of the Matchprint Inkjet Proofing System, is alive and well and supports a wide range of Epson proofers. I am happy to hear more people talk about Kodak Proofing Software (KPS) as it is easy to use and gives great color.

The original post was about the Kodak Matchprint COLOR RIP v2.6 which is a legacy product that was acquired into the Kodak Portfolio from the KPG buy-out.. That product has not been updated in several years in favour of expanding Kodak Proofing Software.

There are attractive upgrade packages for moving to KPS., Generally, you do need to get a new controller but that is factored in as part of the upgrade.

related to matchprint color rip v2.6, we are a company that bought a hp 5000 and this software came with it. we are using the printer to print banners and so fort for our marketing and trade shows. But I am still not sure why we need this?
it is hard to find paper profiles for it. Where Hp has media profiles for hp 5000/ any suggesion, what we need to do? or any simpler software?

several paper profiles are available on the Kodak corporate pages. Check out the list.

you may have to create your own with a standard colorprofile package if there is nothing there that will work for you.
