Hey Francois,

We have a Rotoman 40 press that was installed in 1985. I am one of the electricians that keeps it running. Over the last year we have had to replace two of the PLC Cards and the PLC Power supply. If the PLC was to fritz out altogether would we be able to replace it with anything?? or would we have to replace the press??

We really need a contigency plan in case something happens.

Cheers

Good morning Latham,

On your Rotoman, do you have a Simatic 5 or 7? You will not need to replace the press, just the PLC system. However, because that machine's PLC has an old processor, you may need to start planning a contingency plan. We have provided solutions for this type of issue in the past and it can go very smoothly when anticipated. When the machine is down is not the right time. Very important: make sure that you have a copy and backup of the existing program now, and keep them in a safe place.
Generally speaking, replacing one or two I/O cards and even power supplies is not unusual for a machine of that age. You can contact me directly for an evaluation if you so desire. Where are you located?

We are running Simatic 5. I was talking to my supervisor about it and he said that because our PLC was running a VDU the program would have to be re-written. We are based in New Zealand :)

VDU as in Visual Display Unit? Not sure why you would have to "rewrite" the whole program. Most likely we would have to install a new interface with the plc., perhaps a new operator interface. Because I am located in the USA, I cannot pay you a quick visit (Unless you really insist and pay for it). Therefore I suggest that you contact a PLC specialist (not a PLC manufacturer), someone that does what we do, provide field solutions and upgrades. We have delivered very similar projects to some of our customers here in the states and had very few problems that we could not eventually solve. Good luck.

Rol 505 issue with unit 1

Rol 505 issue with unit 1

Hello

We are getting an issue with unit 1 of our roland 506 (2004)

We get an error on the computer:
5672 - Positioning drives communication error
(faulty communication)

When you go to the Service menu on the computer, in the screen where you can zero the drives, you can zero all the units except unit 1 and you get an error again trying to zero them

As a consequence of this we can not change the side guide on the press

any ideas

Sounds like the positioning motor for the side guide has an issue. You can try to switch the drive motor with the other side that works.

Hello Francois,

We are having a problem with our infeed web guides. We have deduced that it is probably the Powersupply/regulator control card that is not smoothing the DC correctly. Do you or know of anyone that could supply us with another card??

Latham

Hello Francois,

We have a problem with our Roland 306 (1996).
The computer shows a drive (12) in the feeder with status 3, the PLC lost its position, and we cannot realign it.
In the menu General/Service/Autonull/feeder we tried to make some auto null (on the yet correct working units as well), but nothign happened. After some trials we pushed the buttons of the other drives on the feeder front panel, the result was 3 more "defective" drives.
Errors show up instantly after power up of the system:
POS-CTRL: Anleger, Antrieb 12; Status 3 ist falsch (we have a german language package)

Could you please tell us a solution for this issue (haven't got a handterminal)?

Sorry TIbor, I had to post your question this way. However a possible problem could be the eprom module for that unit. Without hand held terminal it makes it very difficult to diagnose. Is it a stepper motor or syncro motor? ERROR 3 : - Position error, stepper motors indicate wrong actual value; e.g. loss of actual
value of the memory module. Switch off while running, max .- sensor approached
during auto-zero. Error indicated already during previous operation

Hi francois...
Man Roland 105 does not run. 24V control led indicator is on.
24V power supply is fine. Run button isn`t working, however, 24vdc is present. Can you help me?

Hello! We have a MAN ROLAND R205 sheet fed offset. We're getting a recurrent error message (which apparently is not fatal, since confirming it lets us continue using the machine). The message reads: WFR ON/ OFF FAULT. I believe that WFR is an acronym for Water Fountain Roller. But what does the error actually mean? Where should we look? What is the problem? Any help would be welcome. Thanks!
