Preps Licensing

I upgraded my OS from 10.5 to 10.6 and preps 5.3.3 came up with error screen "Problem with License, call Kodak". Preps will not launch past the splash screen. I notice on the splash screen the License to and Hardware key spaces are blank. Any ideas short of issuing a PO to Kodak to have them walk me though it?

Hi Rick,

Go to your Preps application folder. Inside that folder is possibly a .pwd file and a .lock file. The .pwd file contains password (product key) and dongle info. The .lock file is only present while Preps is open. If present, try moving the .lock file to your desktop and re-open Preps. If that's not present, move the .pwd file to your desktop and re-open Preps. Most likely, Preps will now want you to re-enter company and password info (make sure the dongle is attached).

Does this help?

Best regards,
hp

I think you need to upgrade to preps 6 or go back to OS10.5. Preps 5 uses Rossetta which is not built into OS 10.6

I did get somebody at kodak to tell me 5.3.3 will run on 10.6 but I will have to upgrade to 6 for OS 10.6.
I found the .pwd file but the .lck file never shows up. Moved the pwd file out to no avail. I don't think Preps launches far enough to generate the file. I only get to the splash screen then error.

This statement doesn't make sense to me.

You may need to download and install a new dongle driver as previously mentioned. Search this forum or maybe try eCentral - I know its been addressed in detail before.

Also, try moving the dongle to a different USB port. Sometimes the keyboard port doesn't work too well, so try the ones on the Mac itself. I know that sometimes mine will lose its connection to the dongle and the only thing that cures it is a reboot of the Mac.

Rick,

The first half of your first sentence seems to contradict the second half. If they told you 5.3.3 runs on 10.6, then why would you need to upgrade to 6?

Note DCurry's message @ 1:10 PM that reports he is running 5.3.3 on 10.6.8. But he does mention he is also using Prinergy. Perhaps that makes a difference. Are you trying to run Preps 5.3.3 as a stand alone application?

My mistake. Typo. The second half should have been "We will need to upgrade to preps version 6 to run on OS 10.7.
Preps not part of prinergy here. Stand alone imposition app.
Rick

You should login to the Kodak eCentral website and download the dongle viewer for OSX. This will let you know if the OS sees the dongle.

You might need to deactivate the dongle using the software in the Preps 5 folder as well.

Actually, I'm not running Prinergy -- that's just a plug noting my experience as I shamelessly look for a job! I'm currently running Apogee, using Preps as a standalone for template creation.

I am running Preps 5 on OS 10.6.8 with no issues. Rossetta is a quick automatic update for 10.6.8. From what I understand, when you upgrade to Lion, then you will have issues with Preps 5, as well as other programs that require Rossetta.

For what it's worth....
I have two Macs running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then updated Preps 5 to 5.3.3. Using RAMPage.
After the update it was slow, it crashed all the time and I kept getting errors about licensing conflicts.
I re-installed Preps and stopped at 5.3.1 and all those problems went away.

Thanks for all the ideas. After researching these ideas I did a fresh install, which solved the license problem. It appears everything works at this point. Preps 5.3.3 on OS 10.6.8.

Glad you got it all working. Let us know if you have issues with 5.3.3, such as crashing, etc. I need to upgrade to 5.3.3, as long as there are no issues.

Any idea what might happen with Preps Ganging in this scenario (moving the .pwd and .lock files)? I have just ordered Preps 6 in order to use it on Snow Leopard, now find out that I might not have to upgrade Preps after all (they are taking over a week to process the order and not even responding).

Just mean that after a 9 days I have no written acknowledgement that my order has been processed or even received. Sales person does answer his phone, but passes responsibility to the "Implementation Specialist," who is not responding to email.
