Quark picture effects

I'm trying to learn picture effects, as we just upgraded from 6. The Help instructions say you can use Picture Effects to edit EPS pictures, but it won't let me do it. It works fine on TIFF files. Anybody else have this problem?

It may depend on the type of EPS. EPS is Encapsulated Post Script, in other words a PostScript you put in an envelope... it may be that it depends on the data in that is Encapsulated wether Picture effects can be applied.

PostScript can be raster, vector or a mix. Does the Help qualifty the kind of EPS?

These are just raster photos saved as EPS, no vector at all. Maybe they're too old, they're at least 3 Photoshop versions back or more.

If there are just raster photos, you might save them as 8bit-tiffs. They works fine with XPress v. 7 or 8 and you can apply whatever effect you want.

My opinion would be to avoid the Quark picture effects altogether and stick to editing photos in Photoshop (or a dedicated image editing program).

I've seen Quark picture effects disappear or change for no good reason whatsoever. The tried and true Photoshop workflow is a much better option. Your preview of what is happening is better so there are fewer surprises when printing and it's quite a bit less flaky.

Just my 2 cents....
