Pat,
Process Management Technologies manufactures a low cost system that is widely used for recycling CtP developer chemistry. There are hundreds of Plate Chemistry Xtenders (PCX) installed throughout the U.S. and Canada. The PCX reduces developer usage by an average of 50%. While the exact savings depends on the plates and chemistry being used, a 50% savings is the norm. With many of the plates being used today the PCX also allows more plates to be produced from a bath of chemistry and keeps the developer bath cleaner. Be wary of these third party companies that promise reduced chemistry. Ask many questions about how the system works before slapping down your hard earned money. First off the filter pump only is engaged when the processor calls for replenishment. This means each time you run a plate the replenishment pump and third party filter pump is only engaged for a few seconds. Their system is not capable of turning the bath once in a week! Do the math on your particular system for the numbers dont lie. The other thing on the claim for reduction is they turn down the replenishment rate. Each manufacturer has a specific replenishment rate that they know works and gives you an operating window. If the replenishment rate is simply turned down your window of latitude is reduced, period. It also depends on how tight you are trying to run your system. Ask yourself if it is ok to have a slightly underdeveloped plate? Do the math and run the numbers before you jump in.

Why Haul?

Why Haul?

Why haul when you can dispose of it on site with the proper equipment.

Check out ctpwaste.com and take a look at the Metafix system.

It the only system on the market that can actually be monitored via the internet to make sure that you are always in compliance. You can even get monthly reports on what has been discharged that you can keep on file and show inspectors or send into your POTW if you are required to report.

Hi pat,

How much the PCX cost?

The Pro Camm PropH Thermal system, will dilute and neutralize the DEV waste to allow it to go down the drain. Depending on you local authorities in your area. I know of many shops using this solution.

Metafix

Although CJT (above) is a vendor, I agree that the Metafix system is very good. We use it with a Raptor polymer processor. I reminds me a little of an R2D2 unit (without the personality). Accepts the discharge from the processor and neutralizes it before it hits the sewer. We have a service contract that mostly is for periodic cleaning. Doesn't need much maintenance, just checking the pH probe occasionally and refilling the neutralizer tank (every few months).
