Transitioning from Nexus10.1 to Automation Engine

We are about to transition from Nexus 10.1 to Automation Engine. I guess transition from is incorrect as AE is an addition to, and not replacement.

I was wondering if anyone has completed this process and would offer hints, or comments on what to watch out for, pitfalls, differences.

Did you require the 7 days of training they recommend? Is there that much difference to the end users?

Hi,

We are working with nexus 10.1.2 in our production environment. For the moment we have also an automation enigne server running, this one is not yet used in production as we are still building/testing workflows.

The automation engine is a powerfull tool but it takes time to setup the workflows as we are used to in our nexusprocessor. We took the training as the Automation engine pilot is completely different from nexusmanager and it takes time to get used to it and to configure the workflows correctly.

Hi,

We too are in basically same situation as 'Joren'. Existing Nexus 10.1.2 (no Nexus Processor, though) connected to AE 12.

We have come across some issues with Nexus integration: For instance, Nexus Public Parameters are not passed through AE to ArtPro "Launch Workflow" (former Shuttle), and currently a complex workaround is needed to achieve same functionality. Esko support has indicated that on AE 12.1 (release date not yet available) there are better tools ("Workflow Parameters") to build the fuctionality we require.
In general, Nexus integration seems a bit flaky...

However, the upcoming Imaging Engine (mass release scheduled during 2014) will provide with better integration, as it has been built from gound up with AE integration in mind. Eagerly waiting for that!

As far as training is concerned - Yes. You need a comprehensive training. The AE environment is so much different, that you cannot survive with guesswork...
(However, make sure the trainer you'll get, has personal in-depth knowledge of Nexus too. There are bits and pieces that may easily get overlooked with someone not familiar with Nexus.)

We are looking into upgrading to ESKO Automation. Right now we are using Nexus 10.1 and using Preps as our imposition. How does ESKO Automation work with imposition? Does it still need to go through Preps? We have had a couple of webex's with Fuji XMF and to be honest with you it was pretty sweet.
