Have you ruled out static on the media as the cause of this problem? Static causes similar types of printing defects but its on the media in most cases, and not on the printer or in the print head.

This is a good printer, however, I would agree to check into the printhead reliability and do a little more research on this point.

I would demo all of 3 of them first. Seek more feedback in this forum too by searching on the printer names. You may find out flaws about each by searching in this forum, but all of them will have flaws. Its just determining what flaws you can live with....!:)

We have also used Purlem and we use their "pro" capabilities which allows us to white label. The support is great.

We had this same problem and Bo3b is right, new Macs do not by default install Rosetta. We installed it and everything worked fine thereafter.
