Heidelberg SM 52-5 + DPX poly plates

Plate clamp inserts essential with these plates! Mine are sprung steel and I've not seen rubber ones(I'm in London UK), but fit was impossible without them and plates would slip and go baggy during makeready and run. Damping has always been a bugger on these plates for me, and I've tried quite...

    Matching pantone, mixing process inks

In the end I ran this job in one hit with a coarser screen and slightly over exposed plate (polyester, by the way). Not perfect but saleable, tho still hard work. When I get some time I will try my cyan/magenta mix and let you know how it goes. Thanks for all your thoughts on this.

    Matching pantone, mixing process inks

It's laminable REFLEX blue (in the 273 mix) which is always a difficult colour to get full strength on large coverage. I can match the swatch with pantone spot colours, my problem is getting up to colour on press with the layouts as designed. I can get as good a deltaE with the cyan/magenta mix...

    Matching pantone, mixing process inks

I have problems with a corporate pms273L (50/50 reflex/rubine) job, large solids with varying screened tints, printed on matte board, to be laminated. Vast amounts of ink and fountain needed to reach colour and keep screens open. I am testing a mix of process cyan and magenta 50/50 and the...

    Positive Ink Feed Simulation Test

Forgive me but I don't understand the graph in this pdf. At the risk of exposing my washed out brains, shouldn't the vertical axis measure grams ink/grams dampening solution? Looks like the less water the more washed out the image by this curve . . . but it's a while since I did maths at school...

Best Fountain Solution For Poyster Plates

I've been struggling to find a good fount for poly plates for years. The best is the one I've been trialling for a month or so now, 2 in 1 from South African firm BMMprint, which is pre-mixed fount and NPA. Jobs that have always given problems with tinting, such as pantone blues on uncoated...

    Help! SM52 front/side lays faulty

Heidelberg replaced the servo about 5 years ago, and that was fine for the front lay for some time. Perhaps there's a bad batch of servos or something else was causing it to fail, and perhaps the new one will fail in a few years . . . the most curious issue now for me is why is the sidelay...

    Help! SM52 front/side lays faulty

New servo on the gearside front lay seems to have sorted this, including the wilful sidelay! I wonder how and why?

    Help! SM52 front/side lays faulty

By the 'very same problem' do you mean you had the sidelay and frontlay bugs? Did the problem get sorted? Was there any connection between the front and sidelay probs? Heidelberg have replaced servo motor, swapped boards . . . Paul, is that the sidelay not homing, or the frontlay rebelling, or...

    Help! SM52 front/side lays faulty

I have intermittent but ongoing probs with driveside front lay movement: sometimes when moving the lay in or out it doesnt reach target grip measure and keeps flashing on console, then moves to max grip on the one side(10mm) so well skewiff. Heidelberg uk not fathomed it yet, replaced or swapped...
